It's been a while. A long while. But I now have a new workstation! Woo! 2GB of RAM has me so excited. Also, I cleaned out a cupboard, throwing away printouts labeled "OLD VERSION" from 2000.

I noticed only at the time of posting that somebody has knocked out some of the dots, presumably rendering some of the words unreadable! Is there no stopping vandals?

P.S. I haven't checked but it is probably upside down.

Though she inclines with attention from far fair-height outside all boundaries, beyond the known and kindly nomenclatures, where all names are one name, where all stones of demarcation dance and interchange, troia22 the skipping mountains, nod recognitions. As when on known-site ritual frolics keep bucolic interval at eves and divisions when they mark the inflexions of the year and conjugate with trope and turn the seasons’ syntax, with beating feet, with wands and pentagons to spell out the Trisagion.

-The meaning of Trisagion:

The Trisagion (Greek: Τρισάγιον "Thrice Holy"), sometimes called by its opening line Agios O Theos, is a standard hymn of the Divine Liturgy in most of the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Catholic churches.

Mostly the same, except I flipped the torso and re-did the legs. If you're into that kind of thing, you can rubber band the legs together using two of the tires.

BERNARD PIERRE WOLFF / PHOTOGRAPHIES, 1971-1984

EXPOSITION

28.06.2017 - 27.08.2017

This sign in the southeastern Swiss town of Disentis/Mustér gives a prohibition on crossing the tracks in five languages, three of which are among the four official languages of Switzerland, and two are languages widely used by tourists.

From top to bottom, we have Romansch, German, Italian, English, and Japanese.

Romansch is spoken by somewhere in the vicinity of 50,000 people, mostly in the southeastern Swiss canton of Graubünden. Linguistically a descendant of Latin from the era of imperial Rome, Romansch replaced the primarily Celtic languages of the region in the 5th century AD. Romansch retains some vocabulary from the formerly dominant language, and is also heavily influenced by German vocabulary and syntax.

The town name "Disentis/Mustér" is itself bilingual German/Romansch. The name "Mustér" is the Romansch word for "monastery", and refers to the Benedictine monastery there that was founded in the year 720 AD.

Syntax / Fever lyrics:

I can't be your daddy

You've already had me

I will not be your backbone

You see I'm riding my style on my own

It's about love

It's about soft

Give me whores who never sleep

Give me fever running deep

You see i'm looking for less cohesion

I will not see your reason

Romance doesn't suit me

But you dance to amuse me

It's about love

It's about soft

Give me whores who never sleep

Give me fever running deep

You try to approach me

But crawling doesn't please me

I cannot feel elation

I got to feel a love sensation

It's about love, love and strange times

It's about soft, soft and chilling rhymes

Give me whores who never sleep

Give me fever running deep

Give me love

Give me soft babe

Come on give me whores

Come give me fever

Farm animals engaged in a sophisticated dance is how poet Vasily Kamensky represented the incongruous entanglement between Russia’s rural past and sweeping modernism. In his book Tango with Cows, he abandoned syntax to explore visual poetry. Liubov Popova was part of such radical movements. The Traveler was painted when she was committed to abstraction but still maintained recognizable forms: a yellow necklace draws the eye to a hidden female form. Nearby, a collar follows the curve of a cape against a cochleated armrest. The neck, head, and part of a hat are discernible. A green umbrella, firmly clutched, takes front center, its generous flaps against the passenger’s legs and feet below. The seated figure delineated, the viewer can make out passing scenery: a railing, a flag, some green. Shop signs and guideposts show “dangerous zone,” “…magazines,” “natural gas.”

Popova recaptured not just the fragments of a broken image but also revolutionary concepts vital to public health. Her traveler, so directly connected with everything, carries with her everything, wherever she goes. And as she moves elegantly, she changes as does the landscape. She is faster or slower. She picks up things from one place and deposits them in another, ambivalent about past, present, or future. Just as the rapid influx of technology produced radical art movements, an explosion of travel around the world has irrevocably globalized everything, dragging the rural cow into the metropolitan area to tango. The close meeting of different worlds, back and forth, from country to country and countryside to city, is making the old from the old environment ripe for emergence of the new in a new environment.

Averaged distance from every vertex of the street network graph to the midpoint of every segment within 1200m. This value, depth, is compared to the direct distance producing a ratio of indirectness within the network. Compared to the previous map this prioritizes local integration and better highlights local distruptions or discontinuities.

The overall length of this proximate network is recorded by the size of the circle. Larger networks denote greater integration.

Conlangers, by the very nature of their craft, are intensely interested in languages and how they work. A few conlangers have chosen linguistics as a profession, but most are simply amateurs fascinated by the intricacies of syntax, grammar, phonology, and vocabulary of languages as diverse as English, French, Basque, Georgian, Tibetan, Zulu, and Murrinh-Patha. They assuage their curiosity by learning the differences between phonemes and morphemes, in investigating different case systems, and in collecting as much information as they can about how people across the world communicate. Conlangers then apply this knowledge to creating a language to see how these different facets of communication interact in a new context. Eventually, when they are confronted by a novel challenge or need a new way to construct a phrase, conlangers will once again plunge into the deep well of languages and surface with yet another interesting specimen with which to work.

Noam Chomsky

The MOST INFLUENTIAL and MOST CONTROVERSIAL figure in modern linguistics

“Chomsky has been called Copernican, Newtonian, Einsteinian, Planck-like. For both its significance and its revolutionary character, his work has been compared to that of Spinoza, Pierce, Wittgenstein, Darwin, and Freud. He is an angel, a God, an enfant terrible. Supporters criticize him with the inevitable caveat ‘Noam Chomsky is one of the half-dozen great geniuses of the twentieth century.’...Alternately, Chomsky has been described as satanic, the Enemy, a crank, an embarrassment. Generative linguistics [Chomsky’s theory of language] has been called a cult; generative linguists have been described as ‘born again.’... Today, people writing in Internet mailing lists work themselves into apoplectic rages about statements he allegedly made twenty years ago.” ~ Christine Kenneally, The First Word: The Search for the Origins of Language (Viking, 2007) (Photo by Duncan Rawlinson.)

The Luna 1450 Syntax was the preferred heavy duty pistol of the Alturian pirates of late 2819. The pistol featured was used in the Retro-Robot wars from 2819-2947. It's owner, Voltex Ranni the Red, was infamous for his robot disintegration techniques. Voltex was the scourge of the Alturian space seas and died a violent, though long overdue, death at the hands of the K35X-0Q robot known as Bill. This Luna 1450 Syntax is on display at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.

i assume this 'epic syntax' book is about grammar in the sanskrit epics. (and so may or may not be exciting.) a thrilling title though.

(but my friend here really likes the title 'a comparative study of all sanskrit grammars'!) (because it seems like it should be....you know.....rather longer....)
