A4 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" departing from the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway for the south on 25th April 2011, after duties with the SRPS "Forth Circle Railtour" the previous day.

Found this older type switch stand at the east end of NS's yard in Crewe, Virginia. It is surprising what one can still find along Class 1 railroads if you take the time to look.

Electrical switches outside the Pattern Shop.
The island was originally used as a prison, but later it thrived as a shipyard. Many naval ships were built and maintained at Cockatoo Island Dockyard, and the island was very busy in WWII.
Experimenting with converting images into black and white using the GIMP editor. An old railroad track switch.
Under the green lid is where the switch is to turn the coil on. The left hand portion is a lid that contains the fuse
This odd set of switches on the wall don't actually control anything, but if I toggle them just right a red light goes off accompanied by a very loud BUZZ! So I did what anyone else would do, I took a picture of it and stopped messing with it.
On the evening of February 10, 2020, an errant pickup truck driver drove up this gravel embankment just to the left of the switch (right) and got stuck on the track. This is the Union Pacific Nevada Subdivision main line, and the switch at right runs from the main into the Fernley "House Tracks." Fortunately, the driver was able to get the truck over the tracks, where he then drove down the space between the main and siding before bouncing back over the main and clear of the tracks.
Unfortunately the Sierra handbrake on switch was broken. Luckily I already had a micro-switch that I've adapted for the purpose.
An unknown switcher taking care of one of the various industries in and around Duluth near sunset. This was probably one of the last shots before we headed back east with our next stop being the LS&I.
While designing in a virtual world, you can 'feel' the weight of the objects as you create and modify them in realtime. During the design process, you can use your avatar to walk around inside of your design ideas, and experience how the space feels from a very immersive and holistic perspective.
During design review with a client, you can move objects on-the-fly, and quickly switch from one design concept to another. If, for example, the client asks how it would feel to lower the ceiling - you can literally grab the ceiling and lower it down, then walk through it within seconds. If the client, or other project stakeholders wish to experience the design on their own time, they can access the same environment from their home computers, exploring the design at their leisure.
No other architectural software gets even remotely close to this mix of technology, place, community and newfound methodology, and I haven't even touched on the profound collaborative aspects of this environment.
Behold, the future of design.
Because of the arched top and the control relief, I can't really have the screws for the switch going through the top, but the top is not thick enough to just screw it in through the normal holes, so I make these little brackets out of brass to hold them in place. It moves the screws to a thicker part of the top, and gives me a look I really like while holding the switch very securely.

Big thanks to Tyler and Joey for letting me come in and shoot the store and saving old boards for me! If you're ever on Main Street in Newark, Delaware stop in and check the place out; they just moved to this location this year!!
