This Acela had to switch tracks to avoid a broken-down commuter rail train, which is hidden in this view. (I was waiting to get on that commuter rail train...)
Since the commuter rail train was right on the other side of the switch, until the last moment it appeared like they were going to crash. Someone on the platform thought that's why I was taking a picture -- to see the crash! Nah, this isn't 1850, that kind of thing doesn't happen. Someone else explained that I take pictures of trains all the time ;) Yes, and I think they look cool going through the switch, something I rarely catch.

I am interested in architecture which offers a total vision, where nothing jars. Everything must be considered as anything which you place in a space has an impact – even something as apparently insignificant as a light switch. Design for me is about a process of refining and reducing, to reach the point of perfect clarity where form and function collide.

A better view of the three push button switch that is used on this lathe. I will say they work really nice.
This building at 34 Aliceton Road, Gravel Switch, Kentucky, was constructed between 1900 and 1925. It initially housed Johnston's Store, a general store and grocery.
"In March 1924, J.R. Johnston’s store burned, and he moved a new location by December of the same year. In October 1931, R.O. Harmon purchased J.R. Johnston’s store and 'began remodeling it for a modern funeral parlor,' " according to a National Register of Historic Places Registration Form.

This is the Brocade 200E fibre channel switch. They're a quite a few thousand dollars, so unfortunately we've only got one. The infrastructure would take another one quite easily, but that will have to be in the future

Switch and stand in the former DSS&A East Yard in Marquette. It would only be a few more years before the line from Munising Jct to (almost) Eagle mills would be pulled up. Image taken August 1993 and scanned from a slide.
These are parts of the switch control system for the little hump yard in Springfield yard. I assume they're relays for all of the switches than can be thrown by the operator in the hump tower.

I wish I had a switch like this so I can turn myself on and off whenever I need to do so.

Double slip switch (X-switch) in detail:
You can exchange two normal switches for one X-switch, and this way you can save 27 studs in track length. The geometry of the X-switches are following the normal switch geometry, so a14 and a8 are useful here as well. Unfortunately the diagonal length of this switch is smaller so two different X-switches are needed. Changing the diagonal length would make bigger problems, like losing the 16 studs module in line distance.
