I like this wine for the obvious reasons. Also it is tasty.

Also it had been a while since I made something float in midair for no good reason.

Also part of my final project for my creative advertisement class. I had to make a spec book to go along with my poster using all the available faces of Glypha.

Trying out different knife closing techniques.

We didn't need to be in Bicester until lunch time, so this morning I cycled to Fairford to re-new my library ticket - this has to be done every three years. I don't use tehe library much at the moment, but plan to, once I have got through my stack of books awaiting reading!

We had a fun time with Smaller Miss - I'd taken an activity book, which had several things she could do and which she enjoyed. She always loves using my SAK to cut things! Later on, we walked to collect Little Miss from school, and stopped off at a bookshop on the way, so that Mike could choose some books to spend his Father's Day tokens on. There was a play house in the children's section, which the girls enjoyed, but they had even more fun with the Silly Putty which I carry around in my little backpack for such occasions.

On the way home, Mike & I called in at a pub/restaurant to book his 75th birthday meal for the family, for October. Good to get something sorted!

It was drizzly almost all day - the great Scottish word 'dreich' describes it well! We actually put our heating on this evening.

After breakfast, I cycled into Fairford (still delighting in all my gears!) to drop off someone's prescription. Then I went to Cirencester (in the car) to buy some things I needed for Liz's house security. While out in the wet, I slipped on a smooth paving slab and ended up on my back. I don’t think I damaged anything, but was pleased to learn that the fall sensor on my Apple Watch worked - I had to tap the watch to stop it from dialling for help 😆

Then it was on to Melksham to get some lunch, before going to Liz's. I couldn't do the work I'd planned straightway because the night carer was sleeping, so I spent a bit of time with Liz, then went off to look at two care homes, with varying success. Back at Liz's later, I did the jobs, and eventually got home at 7pm.

The Swiss Army knife is a multi-tool pocketknife manufactured by Victorinox.[1] The term "Swiss Army knife" was coined by American soldiers after World War II after they had trouble pronouncing the German word "Offiziersmesser", meaning "officer’s knife".[2]

See a selection review here on YouTube youtu.be/ta907Bh97lU?si=1mcI-DqXqEH6L4z3

The Swiss Army knife generally has a drop-point main blade plus other blades and tools such as screwdrivers, a can opener, a saw blade, a pair of scissors, and many others. These are stowed inside the handle of the knife through a pivot point mechanism. The handle is traditionally a red color, with either a Victorinox or Wenger "cross" logo or, for Swiss military issue knives, the coat of arms of Switzerland. Other colors, textures, and shapes have appeared over the years.

Originating in Ibach, Switzerland, the Swiss Army knife was first produced in 1891 when the Karl Elsener company, which later became Victorinox, won the contract to produce the Swiss Army's Modell 1890 knife from the previous German manufacturer. In 1893, the Swiss cutlery company Paul Boéchat & Cie, which later became Wenger SA, received its first contract from the Swiss military to produce model 1890 knives; the two companies split the contract for provision of the knives from 1908 until Victorinox acquired Wenger in 2005. A cultural icon of Switzerland, both the design of the knife and its versatility have worldwide recognition.[3] The term "Swiss Army knife" has acquired usage as a figure of speech indicating extreme utility applicable to more or less any scenario at hand.

Rivets and flanged bushings made from brass hold all machined steel parts and other tools, separators and the scales together. The rivets are made by cutting and pointing appropriately sized bars of solid brass.

The separators between the tools have been made from aluminium alloy since 1951. This makes the knives lighter. Previously these separating layers were made of nickel-silver.[18]

The martensitic stainless steel alloy used for the cutting blades is optimized for high toughness and corrosion resistance and has a composition of 15% chromium, 0.60% silicon, 0.52% carbon, 0.50% molybdenum, and 0.45% manganese and is designated X55CrMo14 or DIN 1.4110 according to Victorinox.[19] After a hardening process at 1040 °C and annealing at 160 °C the blades achieve an average hardness of 56 HRC. This steel hardness is suitable for practical use and easy resharpening, but less than achieved in stainless steel alloys used for blades optimized for high wear resistance. According to Victorinox the martensitic stainless steel alloy used for the other parts is X39Cr13 (aka DIN 1.4031, AISI/ASTM 420) and for the springs X20Cr13 (aka DIN 1.4021, but still within AISI/ASTM 420).[20][21]

The steel used for the wood saws, scissors and nail files has a steel hardness of HRC 53, the screwdrivers, tin openers and awls have a hardness of HRC 52, and the corkscrew and springs have a hardness of HRC 49.[20][citation needed]

The metal saws and files, in addition to the special case hardening, are also subjected to a hard chromium plating process so that iron and steel can also be filed and cut.[18][22]

Spring 2011.

I took the CHEQS Magazines around to the Quenington delivery people this morning, and spotted some walnuts on the ground under this tree. I haven't noticed them much in previous years.

We had the man from Hillarys blinds again this morning, to measure for three more roller blinds - all very quick and easy. Then I had a quick lunch, and went over to help Bethan with some LEGO sorting. She hadn't been able to sort all the sets used at Lucas's birthday party last month, so we made a good start on that job. My SAK magnifying glass still came in handy, in spite of having my glasses on!

Later on, I delivered the last of my batch of magazines - Mike did most of them this morning, but there's one which is tricky to get into, so he left it for me 😄. But I needed to get out for another walk, anyway.

It was great to have the good weather continuing for most of the day. We were in Bicester, helping look after Smaller Miss, who would normally be in nursery, but has chicken pox. She seemed to feel as right as rain, very bouncy and happy most of the time. We did lots of playing - Hot Wheels, Barbies, games - but also she helped with cutting up a bramble in the back garden, walked with me all the way into town and back (I needed to get some bananas, and wanted to visit the bike shop). Then she helped put up the play house, which was taken down during their garden reconstruction last year. We also cleaned it, as it had a thin layer of dust and dirt (algae too). After all that hard work, we sat down for a bit of TV, before her sister came home from school. We had a bit of time to spend with her too, but she was very tired after a hectic day at school, celebrating World Book Day. On our way home, we stopped for our meal at The Sherborne Arms, and had a tasty vegetarian lasagne, salad and chips. I then did a bit more LEGO sorting, but still have long way to go!
