In case you haven’t noticed, dear reader, I am a #Swiftie. I am anxiously awaiting April 19 because that is the release date of “The Tortured Poets Department.” I wanted to emulate Taylor’s Grammy Awards look, so Luna Chelsea’s Hollier dress fit the vibe. Hollier comes in other colors if you want more than white!

While attending my Grandaughter performing in a student -produced show of Taylor Swift songs at the Brooklyn Acting Lab this Friday afternoon, I noticed that some of the props included words of some Swiftie tunes that struck a chord in my contemplation of what the h*ll to do for Flickr Friday's theme of, "The Scarlet Letter."

After the performance, I took some shots and later edited them into one photo over a blurred background that depicted some similarities between the novel and the lyrics.

In Taylor Swift's lyrics, the words "Red," "Reputation," and "Lover" explore themes of passion, public perception, and intimate relationships, paralleling similar themes in Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter."

In her song "Red," the color symbolizes intense emotions and love's complexity, mirroring how the scarlet letter "A" in Hawthorne's novel represents both Hester Prynne's sin and the passionate affair that led to it. The vibrant symbolism of red in both contexts conveys a deep emotional resonance, capturing the dual nature of love as both beautiful and painful.

"Reputation", particularly in Swift's album of the same name delves into the impact of public scrutiny and the struggle to maintain one's identity amidst societal judgment. This theme aligns closely with Hawthorne's depiction of Hester Prynne, whose reputation is shattered by her adulterous act, leading to her ostracization. Both Swift and Hawthorne illustrate how reputation can shape an individual's life, highlighting the tension between personal truth and public perception.

Lastly, the word "Lover" in Swift's song of the same name celebrates the deep connection and commitment between partners, albeit forbidden, love between Hester and Dimmesdale. Despite the consequences, their bond remains a profound element of their identities, much like the enduring, complex relationships Swift often portrays in her music.

Through these words, both Swift and Hawthorne explore the intricate interplay of love, societal judgment, and personal identity.

Taylor Swift "Swiftie" Fan And Her Mates On There Way To The Gig.....

Another year has gone by, and what a year it has been.

I can't deny it was difficult and complicated from the very start, so I am double happy I made it through, and dolls have been very important in the last 12 months.

As in 2022 and 2023, these five categories will find their winning pictures:

Doll of The Year

Favourite Picture

Favourite Photoshoot

Favourite Casual Shot

Favourite Photo Edited Shot

Let's start 🏆

Doll of The Year: Pervinca the Mermaid

This doll has been pretty much my safety net in this hectic year.

When I got her off Amazon and upgraded her to a MTM body with the crucial help of my sister-in-law, with whom I have unexpectedly been sharing my passion for dolls since 2020 thanks to her incredible talent in creating miniatures.

We laughed so hard trying to change Pervinca's body and felt VERY threatened by the new and scary Barbie knob menacing to pierce Pervinca's face that we almost forgot the (many) troubles we both expierenced the first months of this very weird year.

Afrer all, in good times and bad times, as a very famous song (almost) says...that's what dolls are for.

Everytime I felt down or discouraged for the hardships I was facing, a simple look at Pervinca on my shelf brought a smile on my face.

She is probably one of the most magical dolls I have ever owned, with her soft and silky lavander and pink hair and her kawaii-esque make up.

And I know mine is an unpopular opinion, but I really like her face up. She might be 'pixalated', but all I see is 'glittery' and I absolutely love it.

Sometimes dolls become symbols for both the good and the bad, but I am always trying to make the good prevail.

Favourite Picture: Myrtle at the London Library

When I started brainstorming for my end of the year Doll Photo Challenge, this was probably the first picture I planned to make.

I had created these little books last summer and I have always thought I wanted a special way to showcase them.

They are obviously far from perfect, but they are perfect for my own personal use :P

So when I got this beautiful bag off AliExpress (I believe it's part of the Mini Brands line by Zuru) and I have noticed it opened up like a real bag I just knew what I had to do.

There is a whole photoshoot with more details about the bag, the books and of course Myrtle's (Miss Fairchild Poppy as Sabrina OOAK) luscious curls and ethereal face, but this particular picture was the one that stood out and that's why I have chosen it for the Photo Challenge.

Hopefully I will post more shots on my new account

Favourite Photoshoot: Jewel in the Evermore Forest

Another picture for the Photo Challenge I have ran in the month of December, this portrait of Jewel is a homage to Taylor Swift's evermore photoshoot from 2020.

Being my favourite album by her, I knew that someday I needed to have a matching look to the one she has in those dreamy promo pictures, and after four long years that day has come.

This coat is also an AliExpress find and it's surprisingly well done for such a cheap item. It's actually quite detailed and soft to the touch, although I happily removed its fabric belt to add a more realistic one.

Jewel (Simply Simpatico Poppy) was chosen as my doll of 2023, but she was very present in 2024 too.

And I will also post more pictures of this photoshoot soon as well.

Favourite Casual Shot: Aylin on My Balcony

The story of this picture is rather simple yet somehow quite funny.

It features my balcony and Aylin (First Blush Ayumi) as you can see, but also my brother and the torch light of his phone

For some reason I find it quite hard to take pictures that involve the beautiful scenery I am lucky enough to see from my house, but this time I believe I made it work.

Maybe I will explore this setting in 2025 too. I have many dolls that want to test this very landscape too :D

Favourite Photo Edited Shot: The Tortured Poppy Department (Jewel again)

When Taylor Swift relased her latest album The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024 I already knew it was going to be right up my alley with

a feature with Florence + The Machine, references in Taylor's profound lyrics to Stevie Nicks, witches and mithology, Aaron Dessner's dreamy production, Jack Antonoff's quirky music ideas and, last but not least, a haunting album cover that I just knew I had to replicate.

Jewel (Simply Simpatico Poppy), my swiftie Poppy, was ready to jump into this new musical chapter with me, and that is how my most 'artistic' doll picture of the year came alive.

And...that's a wrap!

Thanks to whoever read all of this and appreciated my little pics and dolls.

I wish you the best 2025 you could ever dream of 🐞

The amazing Swiftie Steps at Wembley Stadium to celebrate Taylor Swift's record breaking Eras Tour.

Frank Styles, from Sunderland, was tasked to create an 8ft portrait of Taylor on the Spanish Steps at Wembley, ahead of her Eras tour stop off in London.

It was initially created in a garage in Monkwearmouth, before the work was imaged and printed onto panels of vinyl so they could be stuck down on the steps, which connect Wembley Stadium with Wembley Arena.

My 16 year old Daughter, a true Swiftie, loved it.

It was also raining intermittently, and of course you can see the tree silhouettes.

“I’ve got her over a barrel,” Tom said roundly.

My granddaughter, who is a huge Swiftie, had her ninth birthday the other day. A Taylor Swift purse, bracelets, the new CD, and of course, the infamous hat were among the gifts. Can't believe she's nine.

Even though we might as well consider Flickr as a dead virtual platform at this point, I couldn't help to revive this little ceremony I made up last year just to keep my dolly account alive.

As in 2022, these five categories will find their winning pictures:

Lets start 🏆

Doll Of The Year: Jewel the Swiftie

It's her, hi.

2023 has been pretty much Taylor Swift's year, and this clearly had to find a correspondence in my dollyverse with my Swiftie Poppy, AKA Jewel.

I have been enjoying this lovely girl since 2011 (!) and I am sure her sweet blue eyes, her honey coloured hair and her calming aura will never get old, but most importantly, I will never grow tired of how effortessly she photographs and gives tangibility to every Taylor Swift related idea I have in mind 😁

Early Poppys tend to be easily romanticized, but being an old collector, I think they deserve it most of the times, and this particular Poppy is one of the most precious ones in my opinion, up there with the more coveted ones.

I lost count on how many pictures I have taken of Jewel in the last 12 months, probably the most ever, but I am pretty sure I will gladly keep on taking many in 2024 too :P

Favourite Picture: Fleur in Sorrento

That of 2023 has been on of my most fun summers to date, also dolly-wise.

I have taken many dolls outdoors, took exciting trips and pictures with them, and this very one of Fleur (Great Pretender Lilith Blair) in Sorrento is easily my picture of the year.

Living near these beautiful areas (well, at least if you are willing of travelling a little- my city, Salerno, is not so close to Sorrento, after all!) is a real blessing and I am happy to have made the last-minute decision to bring Fleur with me that day.

This picture was taken on an extremely hot day in August, with my phone, and I remember I couldn't see the screen so it basically was all casual, which has made this small photoshoot even more special.

Favourite Photoshoot: Welcome home, Patrick

I tended to get new dolls quite rarely in the last few years, but every purchase has been a utter joy and delight, and Patrick (Sound Individual Romain Perrin) was sure one of my most anticipated arrivals in my dolly-carreer, lol!

Isn't he just the perfect man....erm...doll?

Tall, dark, blue eyed and passionate for music?

Sounds like a perfect match, for both my dolls and I 😬

I always get my dolls nude because I am not really into exclusive fashion pieces, which seems to be the norm with the most successful and sought-after Integrity boys and girls, so whenever a doll has a more casual and accessible style my attention gets immediately drawn.

When this guy was announced, I remember I thought he didn't have one single thing I didn't absolutely adore, and I think it was a first for me.

The vinyls, the headphones, his clothes...and him, of course.

This picture was one of the first ones I took of him and I felt like he had been with me for years.

The magic of collecting ✨️

Favourite Casual Shot: Verity before my drawer

Verity (Day Tripper Poppy Parker OOAK) was my doll of the year in 2022, so I can only be happy to find her in this little top 5 in 2023 too.

She is just one of the most special Poppys to me, extremely beloved and spoiled with unique wardrobe choices selected just for her.

This particular hoodie was one of my many AliExpress finds of the year.

I don't know for what kind of dolls it was originally made for, but I think it perfectly fits with her tomboysh oversize style, and this was just a random picture to show how cute she looked to my friends.

Favourite Photo Edited Shot: Jewel has been enchanted to meet you all

And here I am ending this ceremony just like I started it: it's her again, hi.

In the many pictures I took of Jewel this year, this has probably been the most fun one.

It's a rendition of Taylor Swift's Speak Now album cover, although she is 'wearing' a tiny organza bag and not the wonderful purple gown you might be suggested to image (am I good at manipulating? maybe I am better at photo-manipulating, which I also prefer 😬)

It's a rather simple edit (I just swapped the wallpaper with a darker one) but I enjoyed the process so much because I really love that particular cover, it's just so magical and dreamy, just like this Poppy.

Aaaaand...we're done!

I hope your 2023 was good, both personally and dolly-related, and I wish you a fantastic 2024!

May all the beautiful dolls you desire come knocking at your door ‍♀️
