The grin of this nimble Swift aircraft is recognizable. Global Aircraft introduced the All Metal Swift in 1946. Production outpaced demand and manufacturing ceased in the early fifties with 1521 planes built. An aviation aficionado in Colville, WA maintains these classic birds.

The Swift River is a 25.6 miles (41.2 km)[1] river in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Saco River, which flows to the Atlantic Ocean in Maine.
The Swift River rises in the township of Livermore, New Hampshire, on the eastern side of Kancamagus Pass, and flows east into a broad valley, surrounded by mountains, known as the Albany Intervale. Leaving the intervale, the river enters a narrow gorge, passing over two sets of small waterfalls, and continues east through the town of Albany to the Saco River at Conway.

Another beautiful Australian parrot! This photo is also one from my archives, taken July 2007.
Scientific name: Lathamus discolor
Family: Psittacidae
Order: Psittaciformes
This is another beautiful Australian native parrot, but highly endangered. The Swift Parrot is a slim, medium-sized parrot with a streamlined shape in flight, angular pointed wings and a long pointed purple-red tail. The body is mostly bright green, with a dark blue patch on the crown. The forehead to throat is crimson and there is a crimson patch at the bend of the wing. The female is slightly duller, with a creamy underwing bar. In flight, the bright green body, dark flight feathers and scarlet underwing coverts are spectacular. They are noisy, active and showy, with a very fast, direct flight. This species is also known as the Red-faced or Red-shouldered Parrot.
Swift Parrots breed only in Tasmania, along the eastern coastal strip, the Wellington ranges near Hobart and on Maria and Bruny Islands. The Swift Parrot is endemic to (found only in) south-eastern Australia, breeding in Tasmania. It is found mainly in southern and central Victoria in winter and also in eastern New South Wales.
Swift Parrots have a regular annual migration pattern. All birds remain in Tasmania for breeding from September to March. Then in April, most move to the mainland for the winter, to Victoria and New South Wales. They are probably nomadic in winter, looking for flowering trees.
Swift Parrots feed in the outer canopy of flowering eucalypts, eating mainly nectar, as well as some psyllids and lerps, seeds and flowers. They are active and agile when feeding, often hanging upside down.

Supermarine Swift F.4 WK198 At Brooklands. On 26th September 1953, this aircraft flown by Vickers-Supermarine test pilot Mike Lithgow made a record breaking flight, raising the world absolute speed record to 737.7 mph in Libya.
The Swift is seen here in outside storage prior to being moved into the new Brooklands “Bellman” hangar exhibition. The Brooklands Bellman hanger is the only remaining example of four originally built on the site and was constructed in 1940. During WWII it was used for final assembly of Wellingtons and Warwick’s.
In 2015 the Museum received a £4.6 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for improvements. The project included moving the Hangar off the Finishing Straight and restoring it nearby.
