My friend, Adrian Trefoya, assisting me during this shoot at a historic building in downtown Los Angeles
This second scrapyard was not accessible last year, our visit was short lived as it was still quite radiated but seemed to be full of interesting vehicles and different types compared to the other scrapyard we visited last year.

Named for the nearby Pripyat River, Pripyat was founded on 4 February 1970, the ninth nuclear city in the Soviet Union, for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979, and had grown to a population of 49,360 before being evacuated a few days after the 26 April 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
Though Pripyat is located within the administrative district of Ivankiv Raion, the abandoned city now has a special status within the larger Kiev Oblast (province), being administered directly from Kiev. Pripyat is also supervised by Ukraine's Ministry of Emergencies, which manages activities for the entire Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
Access to Pripyat, unlike cities of military importance, was not restricted before the disaster as nuclear power stations were seen by the Soviet Union as safer than other types of power plants. Nuclear power stations were presented as being an achievement of Soviet engineering, where nuclear power was harnessed for peaceful projects. The slogan "peaceful atom" (Russian: mirnyj atom) was popular during those times. The original plan had been to build the plant only 25 km (16 mi) from Kiev, but the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, among other bodies, expressed concern about it being too close to the city. As a result, the power station and Pripyat were built at their current locations, about 100 km (62 mi) from Kiev. After the disaster the city of Pripyat was evacuated in two days.

As Mitchell and Dianne said back in March, the little guy sweeping the stairwell needs something more sophisicated than a brush. Built that variant from DeMarco back in July, and yesterday I eventually came around taking a picture.

2830 leads 6752, the Aurizon Sweeper Train from Stuart (Townsville) to Acacia Ridge (Brisbane).
The 'sweeper' train earned it's name due to the fact the train sweeps up and drops off wagons enroute. The train is a catch all mixed goods service which is also used for locomotive and wagon balancing.

Another day, another Nara shot.
With no nice sunset to try and grab a shot of (that’s pretty much it behind this shrine) we departed the park as it was closing and the cleanup crew were busy doing their part to make the location habitable for the following day.
I couldn’t decide if this guy was cleaning litter or sweeping up the stones which had been kicked onto the path during the day, but he seemed to be very focused on whatever it was that he was doing.
Hope everyone is having a great week. I’m having a very busy one, but looking forward to this weekend which should be nice and relaxed, and where I can plan some locations for my upcoming trip to Paris :)

Thursday 17 Oct 2019. From something that I anticipated was going to be a non event, and nearly went home, to this magnificent shelf cloud front of the storm really made the wait worth while. This is a 9 shot Pano shot on the fly.
A sanitation and maintenance worker at a beach resort performs his duties, which include sweeping its beach area with the use of a rake in order to get rid off the dirt covered by sand.
Taken in late afternoon in Olongapo City, Zambales, Philippines.
We spotted this unlikely looking figure in a field, just outside the village of Screveton, off the A46, between Bingham and Newark, yesterday. It is one of an original group of four figures, made by Pirate Technics, a firm based in Screveton, Nottinghamshire. It took eight artists six weeks to design and build the four figures, which originally stood in London's Southbank Centre's Festival of Neighbourhood in 2013.
The two figures remaining at Screveton, with the tallest standing some 23 feet tall, represent an old woman and a young boy and have been dubbed The Sweepers. They were made to celebrate the community spirit that followed the London riots, when neighbours helped each other by sweeping up the mess. Each has a metal pole through the bodies to keep them upright, and are made by internal scaffolding supported by timber. This has been encased in chicken wire before being decorated with artificial topiary.
In Junagarh Fort, Bikaner.
Junagarh Fort in the city of Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. The fort was originally called Chintamani and was renamed Junagarh or "Old Fort" in the early 20th century when the ruling family moved to Lalgarh Palace outside the fort limits. It is one of the few major forts in Rajasthan which is not built on a hilltop. The modern city of Bikaner has developed around the fort.
The fort complex was built under the supervision of Karan Chand, the Prime Minister of Raja Rai Singh, the sixth ruler of Bikaner, who ruled from 1571 to 1611 AD. Construction of the walls and associated moat commenced in 1589 and was completed in 1594. It was built outside the original fort of the city (the first fort built by Rao Bikaji), about 1.5 kilometres from the city centre. Some remnants of the old fort are preserved near the Lakshmi Narayan temple. Before the present Junagarh Fort was built, an old stone fort existed in the city.
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

The good old times when he uploaded his instructions for free on Youtube are over, this took quite a bit of reverse engineerig to get it right.
