Slightly touched up in photoshop, the other angle had too much glare, and the hot sun washed this one out a lot.
Some of the soldiers (then and now) counted on their closest buddies - their war dogs - to save their lives. Recently a soldier was killed in Iraq and his family petitioned, and won, the right to bring his war dog home and take care of him. I wish I still had the link to that story.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Keeping an annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tradition, members from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Coast Guard Station-Monterey represent the military at the tournament’s 15th hole by tending a special pin adorned with the United States flag Feb. 7, 8 and 9, 2014. The 15th hole was designated as the location of the special “Support Our Troops” tent provided by tournament sponsors and organizers, providing free refreshments and a place to pause and relax for service members attending the tournament. Besides special recognition of military personnel at the 15th hole during the final three days of competition, Feb. 5 was designated as Military Appreciation Day, a special day set aside to recognize and honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces during tournament week, Feb. 3 - 9.

One Mile for Love, founded by Jiayi Bu, is an organization that raises awareness for the families of ill, injured and wounded service members. As students at leading universities, we harness the energy of the youth by involving them in walking one mile for love, to demonstrate that very small acts of giving, can have a substantial impact in inspiring Love and how we care for each other as a society. We are firmly rooted in the belief that acts of Good, whether small or large, have a transformative effect on society. It is the family of wounded and ill service members that we support.
We raise awareness and funds for Fisher House Foundation, an A+ rated charity (fisherhouse.org) that provides lodging for the families of wounded, ill and injured service members while their loved ones are being treated.
Participants in One Mile for Love can donate funds, airline miles or hotel points directly to Fisher House Foundation and receive a receipt for their donation.

Besides special recognition of military personnel at the 15th hole during the final three days of competition, Feb. 5 was designated as Military Appreciation Day, a special day set aside to recognize and honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces during tournament week, Feb. 3 - 9.

Twenty Sailors from the Center for Information Dominance Detachment Monterey assisted Operation Care and Comfort at the October 30 San Jose Sharks 'Support Our Troops' game day. Operation Care and Comfort collected cash and goods to support its effort to send holiday care packages overseas to our deployed troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Keeping an annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tradition, members from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Coast Guard Station-Monterey represent the military at the tournament’s 15th hole by tending a special pin adorned with the United States flag Feb. 7, 8 and 9, 2014. The 15th hole was designated as the location of the special “Support Our Troops” tent provided by tournament sponsors and organizers, providing free refreshments and a place to pause and relax for service members attending the tournament. Besides special recognition of military personnel at the 15th hole during the final three days of competition, Feb. 5 was designated as Military Appreciation Day, a special day set aside to recognize and honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces during tournament week, Feb. 3 - 9.
