ORLANDO, Fla. – Dozens of Soldiers from the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) joined members of veteran services organizations to honor the families of fallen heroes during the 6th Annual Operation: Love Letters event conducted March 24, 2018, at St. John Vianney Catholic School in Orlando.
Hosted by the Orlando Survivor Outreach Services, a U.S. Army community support program dedicated to helping families cope with grief from losing loved ones who have served their country. Operation: Love Letters provides a forum of fellowship for family members to share their memories of the deceased through food, games, music, arts and crafts. Conceived in Orlando in 2013, this local activity has transformed into a U.S. Army sponsored flagship program for the entire nation with international reach.
The event commenced with full military honors as the 143d ESC’s color guard and the Patriot Riders Guard led the opening ceremony in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star-Spangled Banner. The color guard then set up a Fallen Comrade table and conducted a “13 Folds” ceremony to honor all American service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Miles Espaillat, the youngest of three sons of Maj. Gen. Francisco Espaillat, lit the candle on the Fallen Comrade Table. Espaillat’s father served as the commanding general of the 143d ESC from 2014-2016. He died of a heart attack April 7, 2017, while serving as general officer for the Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve.
After the opening ceremony, the family members shared their most cherished memories of their son, daughter, parent or spouse. Some brought framed photos while others baked their loved ones’ favorite dessert. The 143d ESC Soldiers joined several family members in creating crafts and writing love letters.
Representatives from the USO, Veterans Affairs, Operation Military Matters and the Orlando Vet Center also attended the festivities to share the many free resources such as grief counseling, care packages, and financial assistance tailored to families coping with the loss of a loved one.
Operation: Love Letters concluded with its most cherished tradition as Soldiers, families and volunteers gathered at the school’s courtyard to release dozens of balloons with messages addressed to their fallen heroes.

Lower income and homeless families are HUGELY helped by diaper donations. Diaper banks no longer exist in No. Cal and diapers are not covered by food stamps. So families must pay for diapers with no assistance and they are quite expensive. Some families have to go without, or reuse disposable diapers, which increases illnesses and hospital visits for young children.

Here's a photo I took of 2 iPhone 4s with different clear cases on for comparison when I was trying to decide which case to bling. In the end, I went with PS cos I like the slimmer cut, and most importantly, I can still hang my handphone strap... hehe

Blount County(TN) FD Support 2 is a 1959 Ford C600/1953 Hughes air & light vehicle. It has a gasoline engine and a manual transmission. It was rebuilt from Engine 5 and was Engine 1 before that. It operates out of Stn #1 on S. Broadway in Maryville. Photo was taken on 29 July 1995.

By this time next week Greater Manchester will have voted for its first Police and Crime Commissioner, a new role in British policing which replaces police authorities with an elected official and figurehead.
The media (and indeed public) have made much of the low profile and lack of interest/understanding ahead of the forthcoming elections for this new public office for England and Wales (outside London). To be fair, their concerns have a degree of validity.
This publication, produced by Choose My PCC, aims to shed some light on matters, and provides an overview of the the five candidates running for office in the Greater Manchester police area, and their pledges.
The five candidates standing for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester are: Matt Gallagher (Liberal Democrats), Tony Lloyd (Labour Party), Michael William Winstanley (Conservative Party), Steven Marcus Woolfe (UKIP), and Roy Warren (independent).
As a large metropolitan area with an industrial past, the Labour party has strong support in Greater Manchester, meaning my money is on Tony Lloyd becoming the inaugural Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester - although that's not necessarily where my own loyalties lie! Nevertheless, I also anticipate this will become an important and powerful role, and perhaps (in Greater Manchester's case) a provisional figurehead for any future/possible London-style metropolitan mayor...

Canadian Army units across Atlantic Canada will hold a series of “patching” and flag raising ceremonies in the coming months to officially issue divisional patches. With the restoration, present-day soldiers of the Army in Atlantic Canada will now wear a maroon patch on their uniforms – the same colour worn by the Atlantic Canada’s soldiers in the 5th Canadian Division during the First and Second World Wars.

Les unités de l’Armée canadienne de tout le Canada atlantique tiendront des cérémonies de remise d’écussons et de lever du drapeau afin de procéder à la remise officielle de l’écusson divisionnaire. À la fin des cérémonies, tous les soldats de l’Armée canadienne dans les provinces atlantiques porteront un écusson marron sur leur uniforme en souvenir de la couleur distinctive que portaient les soldats du Canada atlantique à l’époque où la 5e Division du Canada combattait durant la Première et la Deuxième Guerres mondiales.
