Back in March of this year, I photographed this now dessicated stalk when it was covered with healthy growth and flowers. The flowers are long gone, but I like the look of the structure itself.
It wasn't until I was looking at the image on my computer monitor that I noticed this little green spider near the bottom that had produced the silky webs that had been on the branches, but which came off when I moved and handled the branches in setup.
Strobist info: I lit this with a YN560-II in a 24 inch softbox, camera left and pointing to the subject at a 45 degree angle, as the main light and a YN560 in an identical softbox, camera right at half the power of the main light, for fill. I reduced the power on the fill light because I wanted to see some shadows to provide a sense of depth. Both strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash, and the equipment that I use. www.flickr.com/photos/9422
The flowering plant that this came from can be seen in the comments below.

Born HIV Free’ Campaign launched with support of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy
Paris, 19 May 2010 –The Global Fund has launched its BORN HIV FREE campaign to mobilize public support for its work and for a world where by 2015 no child is born with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Unveiled in the presence of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Global Fund Ambassador, this is one of the most ambitious digital campaigns of its kind.
At the core of the campaign is a series of films and events intended to inspire people to sign up online in support of The Global Fund’s mission.
Transmission of HIV from mothers to their children has nearly been eliminated in Europe, North America and other industrialized parts of the world. In contrast, in developing countries, 430,000 children are born with HIV every year – that is well over 1,000 every day. The campaign’s main message is that “We can put a stop to this in the next five years. A world where children are BORN HIV FREE is now possible”.
The campaign uses a set of imaginative animations that will be available across digital and traditional media platforms to spread awareness about the opportunity the world has to ensure a virtually HIV-free generation by 2015 and to engender support for this goal, as well as The Global Fund’s wider mission of fighting AIDS, TB and malaria. The campaign asks all viewers to show their support by signing their name on the campaign’s “virtual wall of support”.
The campaign will run through until October 2010 when donors will meet in New York to pledge financial contributions for the next three years for The Global Fund’s work. By focusing on a world where virtually all children can be BORN HIV FREE, the campaign draws attention to one of the many ambitious and realizable goals the world can accomplish if it continues to increase investment s in global health. By signing up on the “the virtual wall of support” people can signal to their country’s government that they approve of the use of public resources to fight these global pandemics.
“It is heartbreaking that over 400,000 babies are born with HIV every year even though we have the medical means and the expertise to prevent this,” says Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the Global Fund’s Ambassador for Mothers and Children against AIDS. “I hope the BORN HIV FREE campaign will inspire millions of Europeans to support the Global Fund so we can finally put an end to this terrible injustice.”
“We can win this battle against AIDS if we get the funding we require,” says Professor Michel Kazatchkine, Executive Director of the Global Fund. “This campaign is intended to encourage people to sign up in support of the Global Fund and to show their leaders that there is strong public support to continue and increase funding for its mission.”
The campaign brings together several major media companies that have joined up as official partners in support of The Global Fund: Google, JC Decaux, MSN, Orange and YouTube. The campaign was conceived by French producer and musician Julien Civange at the request of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, and co-produced with The Global Fund.

Proudly supporting...for six more days. 😟 We visited this longtime Hillcrest landmark for the first time yesterday, only to be informed it will close in a week. Shame. Interesting store and people/dog watching, plus I got four cool belts for only $6!
You are beautiful and you're carrying our child,
Will there personality be crazy or meek and mild?
So far so good, no real pain has been had,
Still we don't know, a girl or a lad???
This is my first attempt at maternity photography... there will be more to come!

They all have their own way of saying it...There wasn't a big enough sign for London's opinions on the matter. What he really wanted to say was "Don't be a cheap ass immoral d***" but I censored it up a bit. XD
Julia and Tayler's sign should also say "and so are the artists" but Sylas's sign said that too.
I love my little protesters.
BTW I must have missed the memo about today, but I noticed everyone was doing this in my feed so I really wanted to show my support.
Whilst work was focused on the track realignment at Bloxwich Crossing a small team was deployed to work on strengthening the Up line embankment at the south end of Bloxwich station
i've made some amazing friends here on flickr...and when it comes to self-portraits... i've just touched the surface of my exploration....
when i saw this photo today... i was very inspired. not only inspired by her support, but soooo inspired by the story. i know how difficult it is to put myself in front of the camera, and because of that bashfulness {i} feel, i think it's a shame someone was offended by her lovely photo.... that wasn't at all offensive, in my opinion.
the original by {oneworldmj} has sparked her gallery
supporting eachother.... that's why i love flickr.

Following the Cheshire East Council Supported Bus Service review, funding for Sunday bus services in Macclesfield was reduced from 1 April 2018. Only services 38 (Crewe) operated by D&G Bus and 58 (Buxton/Chatsworth House) operated by High Peak Buses remained along with routes 5/6 (Weston/Upton Priory Circulars) operated by D&G Bus on a commercial basis. From 22 July 2018 the anti-clockwise Weston/Upton Priory Circular 6 was withdrawn leaving an hourly clockwise 5 service.
D&G Bus 54 (LJ56VSU) was photographed at Macclesfield bus station on 25 August 2019 after arriving from Crewe on route 38 ready to operate the circular route 5. This Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 was new to Travel London numbered ES3 in December 2006 and later passed with the Travel London business to Abellio London where it was numbered 8103. It was acquired by D&G Bus from Ensignbus in 2018.

(Sorry I couldn't get a better photo. Camera was put away and I shot this with my phone at the last moment.)
I do not condone war, and shame on those who transgress another nation, killing others for petty gains, assuming life is cheap and disposable. I feel horrible about how Russia has essentially invaded Ukraine and is destroying innocent lives. We can play the "what about..." card all day long and nothing gets done about anything. There's times I turn a blind eye because that's all I can do without going nuts, helpless to do anything when you're tasked with so much in life. I also admit to having a comparatively easy life and can take a lot for granted. And taking a photo from a plane may not be solving anything, but psychologically, any support is better than none at all.
My ancestors left Russia two centuries ago. They were tired of clashing with blind followers and left for America. But not everyone has the ability to do so, and being a refugee is supremely difficult and trying. It might be generations until you're rooted and feel a sense of security. I'm proud of those who will stand and fight for their land, against those who will take it from them. I'm against those who will try to homogenize another's culture. Against an other damned madman in power. I don't even like politics...but this is genuinely more than that. #Ukraine
Down on the ground, death equals stillness – but not in space. Abandoned satellites are prone to tumble in unpredictable ways and an ESA project with the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern sought to better understand this behaviour.
ESA’s Clean Space initiative has plans to remove dead satellites from highly trafficked orbits. The preferred method of ‘Active Debris Removal’ involves grabbing the target object, in which case knowledge of its precise orientation and motion will be vital. So the need is clear to understand the tumbling that almost all satellites and rocket bodies undergo after their mission end-of-life.
The project combined optical, laser ranging and radar observations to refine an existing ‘In-Orbit Tumbling Analysis’ computer model, aiming to identify, understand and predict the attitude motion of a fully defunct satellite within a few passes. More than 20 objects were observed during a two-year campaign.
The long list of perturbation triggers includes ‘eddy currents’ as internal magnetic fields interact with Earth’s magnetosphere, drag from the vestigial atmosphere, gravity gradients between the top of an object and its bottom, outgassing and fuel leaks, the faint but steady push of sunlight – known as ‘solar radiation pressure’ – micrometeoroid and debris impacts, even the sloshing of leftover fuel.
Among the study findings was rocket bodies and satellites in lower orbits are mostly influenced by gravity gradients and eddy currents, while up at geostationary altitudes, satellites with large solar panels are sensitive to solar radiation pressure.
The project was supported through ESA’s General Support Technology Programme, developing promising technologies for space.
