After the eye exam, I totally rocked the super cool eye doctor sunglasses. They roll up and have no ear thingies--they just go under the regular glasses, which I was wearing because my pupils were bigger than my contact lenses.
Gentlemen, the line to woo me starts here. No pushing.
Gallium metal has a tendency to supercool below 29 C (84 F),and can remain a liquid at 20 C (68 F). Here is a globule of liquid gallium at around 21 C (70 F) under very dilute hydrochloric acid, which dissolves the oxide layer giving the metal similar appearance to mercury (more concentrated acid can attack the metal).

Here's sweet little Theodore on his own movie poster for the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. I am unsure what "superniedlich" at the top of the poster means. I think it's German...does anybody know? Anyways, I have another poster like this with Alvin on it and at the top it says, "supercool". I'm guessing that "superniedlich" means "super sweet".

I haven't posted anything on flickr in far too long. Not because I haven't been shooting... but because I CAN'T GET OFF OF THIS HAMSTER WHEEL!
Actually, things are going really well these days. I AM busy - but with lots of interesting work and cool projects. I did a shoot for the Madison Children's Museum this morning. Afterwards, I got a peek at their new facility which is under construction on the Capitol Square.
What a truly incredible place! Gorgeous. Supercool. Seriously FUN. We are all in for a big treat when it opens at the end of summer. I'll post more photos and notes from the tour later. Meantime, enjoy this photo of me as a hamsterlady! Laugh now but you'll be panting when finally you get to give it a spin yourself. It's quite the workout.

my little girlish heart goes pitter pat when i look at these boys. and just as nice and sweet at they are adorable. what a crying shame that they hide themselves away behind the marionettes. i've only met a few puppeteers in my day, but i have to say, i have found it to be true that they are super cool and super hot.

I learned something very very cool yesterday (well, I learned more than this one cool thing, but this is photography-related).
If you take your fiddy off the body, turn it around, and hold it to the camera, it becomes a macro lens!! You need to get REALLY close to the subject, and shake is a real problem, but it's supercool.
(Nikon users: you need to open up the aperture on the lens itself so that it is fully open.)

The left image contains liquid gallium under very dilute hydrochloric acid in a small test tube, at temperatures at around 25-30 C (77-86 F); it melts at 29.76 C but often supercools. The very dilute acid keeps it shiny and stops it from wetting glass (ordinary liquid gallium readily wets glass). When the test tube (left image) was placed almost horizontally and for many hours at around 20 C (68 F), the metal solidified in an unusual shape on the right image with a crystal at the bottom (the solid metal was then taken out of the test tube and photographed).
