Not much technicalities about this shot apart from the beautiful sunset. Handheld with high ISO. After years of limited ISO sensitivity, I'm pretty pleased with this performance.
Norway is a place of endless natural beauty. Incredible fjords, winding small roads, raw tunnels carved through the bedrock and so much more. These images are from summer road trips during 2024.

Going through old photos, and found this. One of Rhode Island's best kept secrets. This was my first time to Exeter, and is still on the top of my list of places I'd like to return to with my new gear. Beautiful spot!

The incredibly cold weather over the last two days has caused the Charles River to freeze, significantly improving the look of the Boston skyline.
Pre-sunset reflections
I went looking for the sunset my first evening on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was an ususual night with reflections in the clouds all around me, but no overlooks with the direct sunset.
194/366: Fire In The Sky – Colorado Sunset
The sky lite up with a beautiful Colorado sunset on the 4th of July. The sky was on fire with a bright red and pink immersion and the mountains glowed in the background. The mountain you see in the photo is Pagosa Peak with an elevation of 12,640 feet. The mountain and sunset display a magnificent reflection on Village Lake in Pagosa Springs Colorado. The image almost appears to be floating, except the tiny piece of grass grounds the viewer and brings them back to reality. Let your eye wander, let your soul run free.. let your imagination bring the image to thee.
This photo was captured with Lee Filters Circular Polarizer and Big Stopper for an exposure time of 243 seconds at f/8, ISO 100.

212/366: Mountain Painted Sunset
The night the mountain painted the sunset was such a sight to see. It seems most people don’t watch long enough to see the beauty that becomes most sunsets. This night there were a group of people sitting around watching and waiting for the painted colors to appear, but they left right after the sun went down…. and that is when all the magic happens.
This photo was captured about 15 minutes after the sun went down and the mountain painted the sky in majestic colors of purple, pink and orange. The mountain peak in the center of the photo is Pagosa Peak in Colorado. I walked around the lake area to find the perfect spot to shoot the sunset and found this area where a family had just come back from kayaking on Village Lake. Their kayaks add in a perfect leading line to the heart of the photograph, the mountain surrounded by abundantly vibrant colors (I also enjoyed the yellow color pop from the kayaks.) The lake adds a sublime effect to the photograph, adding a sunset reflection that is unreal and grandiose.
This photo was shot with my Nikon D810 and Lee Filters Circular Polarizer and Big Stopper for an exposure time of 183 seconds at f/8, ISO 100 – 14mm.

I made this photograph during my recent visit to the park when the Merced river was exhibiting high water levels. This obviously created some really interesting photo opportunities for me.
I was invited to the scene above by the smaller of the two trees in the frame. The raging river was hammering this little sapling so hard that it was perpetually bent, leaning towards the flow of the current. There used to be some quite times, but they were really short; and beside this young tree stood this solid fully grown tree, not budging at all. The water itself was reflecting the clear blue skies and the late evening light on the tall granite peaks. The not so inviting aspect of this scene were the mosquitoes. They were out is such huge numbers that, I think they were fighting among themselves for any small exposed skin. Some of them didn’t even need the exposed skin, they were biting me through my t-shirt.
The small tree is blurred mainly due to the choice of shutter speed. I could have chosen a faster shutter to freeze the fast bouncing tree, but that would have created a very busy looking water flow. I chose to slow down the shutter to get some pleasing texture in the water, which would make it easier to concentrate on the main subjects. In the process, the small tree itself got blurred, but I think that blur should convey the dynamic nature of the scene.

Yesterday I took a trip up to Gloucester Tops into the World Heritage Barrington Tops National Park.
On the way back on sunset we crossed half a dozen fords and on this one the sunset reflections in the rear vision mirror forced us to stop and get a shot or two.
