Spent a great day out, 8/18/10, with Cat Faery Shari who took me to visit the Cabrillo National Monument at Point Loma, and a quick visit to La Jolla on the way home! Thanks, Shari :) This is near Ocean Beach, and area called Sunset Cliffs.
Sometimes people come into your life in unexpected ways. A very dear flickr contact passed away today and although we never met face to face, he welcomed me into his world. He shared not only his great sense of humor but also stories, some great music and even a special type of garlic which he sent my way.
But what I treasured most about Garnite (Jim Dubois) was his sincere and caring personality. In my eyes, he was bigger than life and when faced with mounting health issues, I was sure he would beat the odds as he's done in the past. He was that special. The spirits that be would not take him when he had so much more living to do; so many punny things to say.
We had plans to meet up when he and Linda finally took that drive down 101 which he often mentioned. Tears and more selfish tears flow for what I'll be missing. And gosh, did I tell him what a special guy he was? Not enough...
So I'm very sad. And today standing on the stormy cliffs in San Diego watching the pelicans skirt the winds, maybe that was Jim saying good-bye between the crashing waves. All I know was that it was windy and exhilarating and I was feeling very alive. And perhaps my friend (your friend) was sailing in those heavenly clouds, free as the eagles he so loved.
He would sign off his emails to me with with "be Well, Amiga."
Jim....I'll never forget you. You touched my heart.
Be well, Amigo. Be free.

This cool plateau of flat rocks on the beach is found at Sunset Cliffs Park on the Point Loma Peninsula in San Diego, CA. The jigsaw pattern of cracks in the rocks reminds me of the top of Devil's Postpile near Mammoth Lakes, CA. The purple afterglow show up after the sun had already set as the sky was changing color. The color in this photo wasn't added artificially; in fact, I desaturated it a bit since it looked "too" purple in the original photo.

On an exceptionally clear day, Santiago Peak can be seen on the horizon from Ocean Beach, San Diego. It's part of the Santa Ana Mountains, 70 miles north on the border between Orange County and Riverside County.
Having fun with composites. Obviously this is a fantasy image and Created for 33rd MMM Challenge

The moss-covered cliffs of Point Loma. These waves at Sunset Cliffs remind me of a painter's brushstrokes, as if the Creator were painting a beautiful scene with water.

Taken at the end of my visit to Sunset Cliffs, near San Diego. This bicycle was sitting along, waiting for its rider to come back.
"Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life." Look closely at all the living organisms on the rocks.

Here is another shot from the rocks below Sunset Cliffs in San Diego. I tried over and over to capture the wave crashing into the rock. I thought this was an interesting way to capture the action, as the spray seemed to disappear. Happy Friday...hope you enjoy...let me know what you think!
