"Truly the light is sweet." In the center of the image my friend Brad is shooting the sky with his Canon 40D. Some gal next to him was shooting with film. l told her she was a "real photographer" for shooting with film, she really liked that.

there were several of these giant, perfectly round rocks, probably man-made of cement. One was above the surrounding rock; this one was cradled in a shallow pool. I have no idea what they are or their purpose.

When things line up, and look great, they're impressive. Sometimes the sunset never lines up, other times it's in the right position throughout the evening. Sometimes it's not about the sun, but the lone sentry out-cropping, or the reflection itself.

I had a lot of questions recently about what HDR is, and I decided to take it upon myself to explain. HDR, or High Dynamic Range is a photography technique where you take three photos at three different exposures (or levels of brightness) and then use photo processing software to put them together - giving you a much broader range of exposure than usual. If done right, you can end up with a photo that is closer, or beyond what the human eye can see. Here, the +2 better exposed the rocks and beach, while the 0 covered most of the water, and the -2 improved the areas near the reflections. When stacked together and equated, you end up with a "tone mapped" image - tone mapping is the process where you take the full exposure range and contract it into a single image. Tone mapped images are then worked on to get final images, like the one here.

If you want to see the originals, I have provided them here. for your reference

Sunset Cliffs near San Diego are a magical place.

I arrived at this spot a little before sunset, navigated my way down to the rocks, then setup my tripod in the water. I kept my hand close in case the pacific got a bit hungry for a camera snack that night, but outside of a few drops of salt water on the lens it was fine.

I didn't fare as well though - I somehow managed to sit in the water at one point. But, I got that shot and that's what matters :)

I walked up and down the Sunset Cliffs area of San Diego for an hour or so just watching the surfers, birds, and natural beauty of the rocky coastline. There's this awesome staircase at the Southern end that leads right down to the water - literally, the water was so high I couldn't go all the way down the stairs with my gear, but I watched a lot of surfers bring their boards down and jump in the ocean.

Our Daily Challenge: Landscape.... My dear friend's daughter got married today. If all the sayings are true, she will have a happy marriage as it poured during the wedding ceremony. Of course it was an outdoor wedding here at Sunset Cliffs. As you can see the wet weather didn't dampen the joy of the day. Later at the reception, the rain subsided, and a good time was had by all. Best wishes to Lauren and Eric. May they have a long and joyous life together!
