We made the mistake of going to watch the sunset at Cafe Del Mar. Only a few years ago you would almost have this place to yourself, it completely shocked us just how busy the place had become. Made me wonder what the hell this recession is everybody's talking about....drinks at 13Euro a pop! We couldnt get away quick enough.
DIdn't really get a great picture so had to doctor this one a little... the 747's clear the beach by 35'

After getting settled into our stateroom aboard the Celebrity Constellation and attending the mandatory muster drill, Mike and I headed to the Oceanview Bar (also known as the Sunset Bar) for a sail-away meetup with fellow Cruise Critic members from our sailing's roll call. I took this shot of a few of those who joined us for drinks; they proved to be a great group of people, and we were happy to get to known them! (The six people at the far end of the table [to Mike's right] -- Lowell, Darryl, Joan, Francine, Hellen, and Gary -- were our travel companions for our first shore excursion the next day, which took us to Nice, Eze Village, and Monte Carlo.)
The world famous Sunset Bar on the Mekong River. The place to be when the sun goes down in Vientiane. It used to be far nicer and larger, but was largely destroyed by the floods of August 2008. It's got a lot of character, cold Beer Lao, and surprisingly edible food.
