Kirkjufell is a mountain 463-meters or 1519 feet above sea level on the Snæfellsnesnes peninsula in the Western part of Iceland. Standing tall above the small fishing town of Grundarfjörður, Kirkjufell is the most photographed mountain in Iceland, one of the top 10 most beautiful mountains in the world, and yet most recognized as being “Arrow Head Mountain” on Game of Thrones.

Thank you for your interest in my photos

The last rays of light from sunset stream through the forest.

Eastern Screech-Owl hidden up at least 20-25 feet in a broken tree limb; the pines as you can see made it difficult to get a clear capture. We were so thankful to a birdwatcher that called us over to have a peek. Very exciting.

Captured with the 10 Stop ND. Went to ISO 200 here as did not want to have a 240 second exposure.

If you look closely along the bank of the lake, you can see there was another photographer out there for this sunset ... though he left not long after this shot. The sunset was spectacular there on the lake in Glacier National Park.

I take pictures of random stuff. Like the way the light at sunset streams through a glass of water. Maybe you do too, so we can be crazy together?

One from last night on the Cornish Coast. It was wet and windy when I left the house and the weather closed in as I went up to Lanyon Quoit. I got out of the car and took one shot in the grey light and very nearly drove back. However, I thought that with the bad weather I would drive down the very narrow lanes of the Cot Valley to Porth Nanven cove.

It was as I expected understandably quiet and this was the grey scene that greeted me. There was a lot more sand on the beach since I last visited a couple of years ago.

Anyway, things started to get better and better as sunset approached and I ended up having one of the best evenings out with the camera. I came away with lots of decent images. I will wait until I get back home before I edit them properly on my larger computer screen. I hope you will find them worth waiting for.

But for now here is Porth Nanven in Mono as a taster. It is a fabulous location for sunset, but a bit of a nightmare to get too if its busy!

The skies over the Frankfort lighthouse ignited above ignited in a beautiful display of color over Lake Michigan. This pano was stitched from 9 handheld photos.

The stories of the Everglades are as vast and as flowing as the River of Grass itself; limitless. But, sometimes, the best stories are found on a narrow road to a familiar place, sunset streaming through your favorite pahayokee cypress domes, and an encounter with one of the majestic creatures that calls this place home. The details of this sublime place are really in what makes its stories shine, like sunstars in the stained glass background of cypress trees. My Thanksgiving visit to Everglades National Park was typical in how the story unfolded but the adventure and the majesty of the place is in appreciating its subtleties and its grandeur, all at the same time. The Everglades is the most atypical of all of our National Parks; when you are here, you aren’t here for mountains and canyons and big trees and unending landscapes of stone, but you are here for the interplay of water, grass, the sun, the sky, and the creatures that live here. That’s the story of this vista: a brief moment in time as the sun sparks behind a cypress branch and a barred owl, who decided to land here and spend some time here, making for a gorgeous coincidence. This is a story of happenstance and a symphony of nature, all at once. That is what the Everglades is.

"Nature is not a place to visit, it is home."

"Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice. "

Robert Frost's poem Fire and Ice

Yesterday I posted my shot for the group PCA's theme Fire and Ice. This was the other shot I was considering for that challenge. Straight out of the camera.

This was one of the most intensive and longest enduring burning skies I have seen for a long time. Luckily it happened right in front of a very juicy foreground. Was waiting for years to get epic light on a fresh, fluffy snow coverage. The tree trunk comes from a very special old tree, I have photographed many times before. Grab a hot chocolate, lean back and enjoy the view!

Dreaming of my mountains.

The Grandes Murailles is a mountain chain located in Aosta Valley between Valpelline and Valtournenche. Lies to the west of Cervinia.

From the left Cresta Albertini and Dent d’Herens , surrounded with clouds Punta Bianca, Punta Carrel and Punta Mara Cristina.

A beautiful sunset among the mountains of southeast Alaska. Yet the trace of glacier is frustrating, from glacier to waterfall to stream. It is unfortunate to see glacier keep shrinking over the years.

This is an image from an area of the Vanoire National Park in the French Alps, taken during my visit there last summer with Erin Babnik after she and I lead our workshop in the Italian Dolomites. We headed out for some personal shooting, and during some prior research of the area, the appearence of the fin-like peak of Vanoise really appealed to me. The valley below turned out to be quite picturesque with a waterfall plummeting right into the valley resulting in a curvy glacial stream cutting through green meadows. The valley is also home to many goats, their human like screams echoing agains the walls hugging the valley. I laughed everytime, reminded of the hilarious memes from a couple years ago of goats singing pop hits like Whitney Houstons 'I will always love you'. If you haven't seen it, seriously, go watch it now, and imagine me snapping away at this scene as the french goats serenaded us.
