Point Lonsdale lighthouse looks as the sun sets over the treacherous waters of the Bass Straight. A scene of such complete calm belies the dangers that passing ships have faced for centuries, and emphasises the sense of guidance and calm we get from lighthouses.
My favourite shot from my recent trip to San Diego, California. I have been experimenting with narrow aperture shots with my Sigma 17 - 70 to create this sunburst effect and was blessed with an incredible sunset skyline as I walked near the Seaport Village. I have only cropped this image slightly. Otherwise it is exactly as it came out of my camera.
OK, so maybe I spent a bit too much time post processing and let my imagination take over for a while :)
December 26: Took an afternoon walk at Asilomar. The place was packed! Lots of people--and dogs--out enjoying the beautiful afternoon. But if you wanted a feeling of solitude, all you had to do was face Japan.

Taken with the 70-200mm zoom lens all the way out. I pinned my camera down on a stone wall for this. Turned out not too bad.
Sunsets are very precious to me. The sun could go down literally in minutes. Just today I saw a super-sized sun setting over the highway. I went chasing but it went down before I hit my exit.
Tonight's sunset knocked my socks off with the brilliant red clouds above reflecting on the ice cracks on the lake below. The ice melted in the cracks just enough causing the reflection. Probably never see this occur again.
As usual, It was much more spectacular in person. Had to be there to truly capture it.
