Some shots take a lot of effort to get. It may be a location that is hard to get to or it may be unsociably early or late hours to get the light right. Usually it’s a combination of location and timing. Sometimes though, as is the case of this image, I just happened to be in the bar at the hotel enjoying a light refreshment after a day of shooting when somebody points out the nice colour in the sky. I pick up the camera from beside my seat, snap a quick shot out of the window and I’m back to my pint in under ten seconds. If only they were all so easy!
Actually, the image is not the sharpest but I blame the beer on that. It was too crowded for a tripod and my hand holding was definitely up to scratch by that time.
Another shot of the evolving sunset posted 2 days ago:
One of the most dynamic sunsets I have ever seen. Wildfires and smoke out to the west contributed to the vivid colors. And not a soul left on the road---everyone had pulled over to take photos.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
Threave Castle Sunset, back at Threave last night, the clouds were looking good, but as quite often happens, just as the sun falls, the clouds evaporate. A warm glow in the was to be had, i had wanted to try for a long exposure, but a gentle breeze over the river meant tonight the boat was moving, so no long exposure.

Here's another from that incredible sunset in Saguaro National Park, East, a couple weeks ago. This was without question, one of the most amazing and unique sunsets that I have ever seen. As Jill and I drove around the park, looking for a nice sunset spot, I actually thought the sunset was going to fizzle out. The sky wasn't really looking very good. Actually the upper part of the sky was pretty dull, but when I put on my big 300mm lens, and just went in tight on the horizon, it really came to life. This is one shot with the 300mm.
