A small children's swingset sits quietly along with some viewing chairs near the corner of a barn that is only a short time away from giving up the ghost. Shrouded by an intrusive tree in front of the main door, the broken windows and a lack of a revealing footpath shows it has been many years since this hip roof dairy barn heard a farmer and his teenage helpers at toil.

Does the mother tending her charges as they shriek their fun over what seems to them a sky high swing tell the young ones of the days long ago when this barn yielded the sounds of the mournful bellow of cows waiting to be milked? Perhaps enough years have passed since those days that the young mother doesn't even have a farm background and the barn is just one more out-building deteriorating away.

In my father's early farming career there were over 6 million farms and around 40 percent of all Americans lived on farms. Today those numbers have dropped to a little over 2 million farms and 1 percent of American who live on farms.

As fewer children are now raised on farms most children in the future will only learn about farm life from books, old family photos or television shows rather than hearing about the experiences from the sun-burned lips of a farmer wearing bib-overalls.

Just a few pieces of imaginative photo art today. Since we've been experimenting with cyanotypes and infra red monochromes in recent days, these three photographs take the theme of Sunburn.

As I am particularly keen to produce in camera effects, I have taken my Red 25 filter and used it to create these images. Normally these filters are used for producing darker black and whites. By the way we have to remind people these days that filters actually are fitted to the lens of the camera - they are not post-processing "styles".

Some people say they can do everything in Photoshop that a real filter can do, so why bother? My answer is twofold: (1) It's more fun doing things the old way, and you learn a lot more about being a photographer by it, and (2) Why do something that a million other people can do by the press of a button? Is that creativity?

So all the effects in these three photographs are produced with the Red 25 filter in camera. Only a few luminosity adjustments have been made in processing.

6 cute sunburnt blushes will be released this Sat/Sun for So Kawaii Sundays! I love using blush to give the effect of a *slight* sun-kissed sun burn.

This was friday, I'm in love.

Visiting Rügen for my first time. The shot was taken while checking out the chalk cliffs and the surrounding beech forest, which is one of the most natural and untouched ones in Germany. The snow between the trees was dry but knee deep. So it was a real exciting trip down to the waterline.

If you like this shot you will definitly want to see some of my others:

A Red, Red Rose

O my Luve’s like a red, red rose

That’s newly sprung in June;

O my Luve’s like the melodie

That’s sweetly play’d in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,

So deep in luve am I:

And I will luve thee still, my dear,

Till a’ the seas gang dry:

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,

And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:

I will luve thee still, my dear,

While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee well, my only Luve

And fare thee well, a while!

And I will come again, my Luve,

Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.
