It was months of toil, and yet it seemed as though just like that, spring had returned once more. It was only when she stopped, and asked to experience all the seasons, that she gave him pause. All of the seasons, for all of eternity. The mild nature of spring and autumn, how it leaves you longing and brings you periods of peace, coupled with the harshness of summer and winter, how both seasons bring the extremes, instilling a moment of gratitude. Of lush flourish and sunburns and the clean slate of snow, swallowing all sound. The sound of thunder, birds in the morning and crickets at night. That which can blossom and wilt, only to return again. No goodbye could ever be forever. No trial would ever be endured alone. How could he say no?

Sunrise at Mesa Arch, Canyonlands NP, Moab, Utah
This is the 'follow up' to my previous 'Sardines' shot. When researching Mesa Arch I'd read that the majority of the 'Sardines' leave the site within about 5mins of the sun rising. However, for those in the know if you wait around for another 20-30mins the sun starts to light up the underside of the arch and this is THE shot most Togs look for. It really is amazing just what a small amount of research and/or patience can give you. OK, most places won't have this extreme difference but I bet any pro/serious amateur knows of some shots they got only because they had done some research first and/or waited to see what would happen.
I can certainly say that for my visit the above image was a much more pleasant shooting experience.
This photo at A3+ size is now hanging on the wall in the lounge and serves as a reminder of both the individual shoot but also my last foreign trip and a pre-Covid/Putin's War world.

One afternoon in the Aran Islands and I was already sunburned! (I was lucky with the weather). This was the window of a ruined cottage that still had the remains of a thatched roof. Quite a few houses here are still thatched.
Apologies for not posting the last couple of days, but I had a bit of a run in with the Flickr police and wanted to wait until I could show my pictures as 'safe' again. Hope you didn't miss me while I was gone!
Though their hide looks tough, elephants have sensitive skin that can get sunburned.
To counteract the damaging rays of the sun, elephants throw sand on themselves. Adult elephants will also douse youngsters with dust. When coming out of a bath in a river, elephants will often throw mud on themselves as a layer of protection. And when calves are sleeping, adults will often stand over them to cast shade and protect them from the sun.

Mirar al sol produce quemaduras en la retina, eso es sabido. Los fotógrafos solemos evitar meter el sol en el encuadre porque plantea muchos problemas y sobre todo muchas dudas sobre cual debe ser el resultado final, pero a veces todo lo que rodea al problema es tan bonito que es difícil resistirse a la tentación. Return of "Palms in Paint" on walls...everywhere at the beach. The palms are a refuge for the sunbathers who cook themselves on their first day out in the sun. Every May and June, Huntington Beach becomes the "city of pain" especially for the teenagers. (From my oldies but goodies file.)
