After the last few days of poor weather that we have had it was nice to wake up to clearer skies and with that the opportunity to catch a sun rise. This was the scene at Paignton beach this morning.

Shortly after taking off from Iceland's Keflavik International Airport we were cruising above the clouds. I couldn't resist stretching over Karen and jamming my camera up against the window to capture this view. It doesn't seem to matter how many times you witness this scene it always impresses.

This was the first time we'd seen a whole sun during our brief Icelandic adventure and, even if we couldn't feel its warmth, it felt good; the blanket of clouds below fascinated as always. A great end to a magical 5 days.

7 exposure hdr -3 - +3 created off a single shot in Adobe Camera Raw. Nikon D700 and 16 - 35 f4VR @ 35mm. ISO 400, exposure 1/8000 sec at f 7.1. Post processing via photomatix, & photoshop with topaz clarity and de noise plugins.
