With perfect waxy blooms, the magnolia grandiflora in our garden has performed well this year giving us a number of blooms at eye level that I can never resist photographing. Having just opened, this specimen was in peak condition before the pollinators get in and also smelling wonderfully. It may seem a good chance to go B&W but I rather like like the subtle yellowish / off white colour of the petals and so have left this in colour.

The final composition of my day hunting wildflowers along the ridges of the Great Smokey Mountains. The wind still whipping, the flowers swaying, my urge to get things just right making me slow down, focus on the moment. The moment is what matters with wildflowers I find, they are there and gone just as quick, a moment in time. It necessitates that we take our time to properly capture their moment. At the mercy of the chaotic nature of these miniscule blooms, yet cathartic when you finally return to see what you managed to bring back.

Was very happy to see the camera capture this shot. The bird was in very dark shadows so I was glad to see a salvageable image. Now I just need to figure out how to adjust my settings :)
It was perfect. Like last-sunset-of-my-life perfect. Like..... perfect. The whole sky was bright gold. And at the last moment, it turned bright red.
A million thanks for the email, Nancy. I'm so glad not to have missed this one.
This off to the side comp makes the reflection not so overwhelming ... pretty lighting as the morning progressed there in Arches National Park.
After a long walk to the sailors in Coroico, we reached our destination and exhausted , we sat down to rest on the shore where the water ran with great force. In that, she appears flying a little exhausted. Then she sits on the knee of a partner, and there remained unchanged for a long time .
It was a magical moment .
The Subtle Hint
I took this image while on the island of Mull a couple of weeks back. It was taken during a visit to my favourite beach there, Ardalanish where there happens to be a wonderful traditional weavers and convenient shop. The trip to the beach worked out quite unexpectedly expensive for Tory as she had her purse with her and treated herself and me to lovely jumpers and also very nice cap for me obviously this was before I subjected her the Staffa ordeal or I think I would have been lucky to get the cap :-)
We were having a lovely walk along the beach when I noticed the sailing boat that had been anchored off the beach was heading out to sea. It was a beautiful day and definitely not the best light for me but when I saw this one cloud seemingly following them out I could not resist. Not a composite image in case there are any cynics reading this.
I hope that it works on some level? more of a fun image not planned

... and so many things to photograph in a winter garden. Sometimes I catch my breath at sunlight hitting a snow-laden spent bloom. And if one looks closely, these seedheads contain the promise of beauty for another summer. Simple elegance... and I hope I don't tire you out looking at endless photographs of my garden in winter.
Sunday was quite a day. It morphed from a faint sunrise to a densely fogged afternoon and evening. There was no noticeable sunset.
Muted tones and delicate reflections create a quiet, subtle balance shaped by nature.

Pilot Knob State Park - Iowa
Out hiking Monday in the state park area looking for simple earthy autumn colors. I'm not sure what the proper name is, but they line the paths and road every fall.
It's the simple plants and foliage I truly enjoy . . . and also this beautiful mosaic background otherwise referred to as bokeh.

In a soft and subtle way, a Canada Goose Gosling takes a closer look at the blade of grass.
It was when the gosling pressed up against it causing it to surround his beak, I knew I had a great photo.
