Spring 2017
University Jean-Moulin Lyon 3, Lyon, France
My friends and I had the opportunity to explore Amsterdam one weekend while studying abroad. This picture was taken right around the corner from the Anne Frank house, which was one of the most powerful museums and experiences I had during my study abroad trip. I also loved biking around the city to explore. It was cool to see how the main mode of transportation in the city was bikes, rather than cars or trams.

Tokyo: From Samurai Capital to Modern Metropolis (Faculty-led)
I have a number of silly things on my bucket list, and to experience multiple cultures at once was one of them. To be able to incorporate this checklist into food format made it even better. My defining moment was getting the opportunity to order paella (a Spanish dish) from Saizeriya (an Italian restaurant) in Tokyo (a Japanese city).

“While the background of this photo may not stand out to the average viewer, it was special to me. Leaving everything and everyone he knew and loved my 10x great-grandfather sailed from this beach (his hometown) in Aberdeen, Scotland to North Carolina nearly 300 years ago to make a better life for himself and his family. As an international student, I felt that I could relate to my grandfather’s probable feelings of fear and excitement to be migrating to a new country. It was an amazing moment in my experience abroad because I felt like I got to honor his memory, and learn more about my heritage by visiting Aberdeen. Visiting Aberdeen was a personal goal of mine, and I definitely could not have checked it off of my bucket list if it was not for studying abroad.”

Masada, Israel. The remains of the extravagant fortress of King Herod the Great displayed the magnificence of Roman architecture. With thousands of years of wear and tear, the intricate details baked in the hot Mediterranean atmosphere show off the intricacies of Roman art.

Shakespeare in England
We had visited many Shakespeare sights while in London, but this random street art of him defined our trip the most. After visiting his hometown of Stratford, we found Shakespeare in the streets of London, of all places.
The view outside Kilmalkedar Church, through an ancient cemetery, down the to bay where St. Brendan launched his sea voyage. Behind Kilmalkedar Church is a pilgrim's route up Mount Brandon, as well. This is a holy pilgrimage site.
