10 CSU students had the opportunity to study abroad in Western Europe for an International Media Studies trip. They traveled to the United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and France over a 3-week period. They had proffessional visits to advertising agencies, public relations firms, and graphic design studios. They visited some of Europe's many musuems and they also had the chance to explore the cities with their free time.

Students and faculty traveled to Ethiopia over spring break for a blend of cultural and academic experiences in the East African nation. There, they visited historic locations and met with high-level officials at the U.S. Embassy, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Oxfam, and the African Union.

"After months of intensive studying, field research and writing, our team presented our findings and recommendations to the community surrounding us in the Amboseli Ecosystem (the area around the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro). Maasai morans, mamas, community members, government officials, the Kenya Wildlife Service and countless other representatives came to our presentations. Among them was this Maasai mama, who stepped out to accept a call. This photo is an ideal example of the modern world’s expectations of Africa and her indigenous tribes and the reality. It can be said that many tourists come to Kenya to see the wildlife, Kilimanjaro and the richness of the Maasai culture. However, they are almost always disappointed when they see that the Maasai are becoming more modernized–they carry cell phones, they have e-mail accounts and they eat packaged food, and this is frowned upon by those who come to see this “untainted” culture. This photo is a look into the real, progressive lives of the Maasai, not the ones we want to see."

"A weekend trip to Cairo with some fellow Pioneers led to an incredible experience, which allowed us to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Giza Pyramids. We rode our camels to a small hill in the Sahara Desert that overlooked the pyramids, where we were able to see the amazing architecture of the Egyptians, which now makes up some of the world’s oldest standing structures."

It was taken in Nepal when I went for a trek of Annapurna circuit. The local woman, at rural Manang district of Nepal in the photo, gave her real smiling face to my camera. The sun setting on the dome of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore. The walls of the cathedral stand hundreds of feet tall, making anyone feel small standing next to it. Through the circular stained glass window, the sunlight pours into the dome, designed to bathe the cathedrals grand altar in light each evening.

This photo is of the view at the ‘top’ of Magic Mountain. I use top in quotation marks because this is as close to the top as humanly possible. Due to Moorea being a newer island it’s mountain tops are still to brittle and steep for people to climb leaving the true top to be unexplored. The view is of two of the bays, Opunohu Bay to the left and Cook Bay to the right. The locals believe that Magic Mountain is where your soul passes through before heading into the afterlife.

"My Australian dorm mates and I woke up just before sunrise on the first day of spring (September 1, 2009). It was a family tradition of my roommate’s to take a swim in the ocean at sunrise on the first day of spring, so we all joined him and took a dip at our Fairy Meadow beach in Wollongong at exactly sunrise. It was a cold, but unforgettable, experience."
