Trying to learn more about the way Sargent used and mixed color. I am always surprised how low the chroma on many of these colors are. There are just a few notes of high chroma.

 

I love the way Sargent rims the cheek as it turns with a cool muted green and I was trying to convey that in this study.

he studies in a boarding school 4 hours (by bus) away from home - and comes home on the weekends

Some of the nuns broke off into groups for study. This one didn't get very far before claiming this spot. Nice one too.

Watercolor and gouache painted on tracing paper, cut out and glued to vintage notebook paper.

I was tidying up my little San Diego kitchen and piled all my fruit in a bowl. When I set it on the table I realized that everything I'd bought was green - as was the work file and my stripey laptop bag which were also on the table.
