Ground-truthing the Neolithic enclosure of Masseria Rizza. Between Foggia and Lucera. Puglia, Italy. Between 2003 and 2013, the UCL Institute of Archaeology Tavoliere-Gargano Prehistory Project visited the sites of 180-odd Neolithic ditched enclosures (villaggi trincerati), the majority identified from cropmarks visible in photos in the John Bradford Archive of Aerial photographs. The objectives of these visits were to ground-truth the cropmarks—confirm that they were indeed Neolithic sites—and to characterize the sites phenomenologically. "Neolithic Spaces", a two volume report generated by our work, was published in December 2020. This photograph appears in both volumes.

Another Image from a wonderful evening with Warren

Excellent day out at Milverton off road motorcycle stubble championship races. Some great action on the day with tight racing.

The action for the stubble championship take place is field which has been harvested with only stubble left. Despite all the rain on Saturday the course was dry and quick. Races are 4 or 5 laps with all ages catered for, some as young as 5 go in the little autos.

Very frustrating trying to get a Decent panning shot at the racing yesterday.

The bikes are going fairly quick along this stretch but they are bouncing and bobbling quite a bit. Happy with this one though of Nathan Markey on his way to victory

Sometimes I take a picture which I really like - but which I feel is unlikely to garner much interest from others. Let's see ...

The first hay crop has been taken, the stubble stands in the late evening light - a further crop will be taken later in the year - if the drought abates.

Whilst wandering around the plains of Terrick Terrick at night in search of Plains Wanderers, we stumbled across at least a dozen of these fantastic Stubble Quail. I had no idea how intricate their feather patterns were & the mix of colours of their plumage - particularly the male with that wonderful buff colouring around the face & throat.

Driving home the other night, the sun was just setting and the light was just exquisite

front birds in photo are minima cacklers

Minima - classic tiny stubby bill ,makes this cackler subspecies perhaps the easiest to ID

Whereas adjacent photo/lighting emphasizes the blue-grey cast of the back plumage typical for adults...this photo emphasizes the 'shiny' purplish to copper breast colouration that is often prevalent for Minima Cackling which is also known as Ridgeway's Goose
