Renewal is wonderful
I remember as a boy
watching the stubbled soil
curve slowly
behind the plough blades
as a tractor chugged
through the fields in the spring
the pungent smell
of open earth
and diesel fumes
an odd incense
at this ceremony
presided over by the gulls
under the warm spring sun...
renewal
awakening
and a brief embrace
from a primal force deep
so deep and large
I
spreadeagled on the ground
unable to fully grasp
could only
wonder

A stubble field on the Cardurnock Peninsula. The light covering of snow overnight had defined the tracery of the stubble emphasising the perspective and contours. This field had somewhat suffered due to the very wet season and had been cut quite late which had probably made ploughing impossible thus, we see the stubble - an unusual sight these days! Normally cutting and ploughing follow each other in quick succession.
