Historic structure in Keene, New Hampshire. The oldest part of the church dates to 1786, with additions in 1828 and 1859.

My aim was to do a huge monochrome structure and then have some colours wildly pop out.

My first try also had different pink trees within the city but it was too much. In fact it's still too much and could be cleaner, but I like the overall impression.

I think the samller picture without the tree works better... But this picture was done for the "great wall" contest. So I had to deliever something huge, I guess?

Krasnoyarsk lies on the Yenisei River in southern Siberia. It's at the heart of the trans-Siberian rail network. I was here on a rail journey from Moscow to Vladivostok back in '13.

Note the tank cars on the right. A major use of the Russian rail system, at least in 2013, was/is to transport oil across Siberia for domestic use and for export. I witnessed enormously long trains of crude-carrying tank cars while traversing Siberia.

This one's for you, my good friend Yuri !

A winter storm is an event in which wind coincides with varieties of precipitation that only occur at freezing temperatures, such as snow, mixed snow and rain, or freezing rain. In temperate continental climates, these storms are not necessarily restricted to the winter season, but may occur in the late autumn and early spring as well. A snowstorm with strong winds and other conditions meeting certain criteria is called a blizzard.

Winter storms are formed when moist air rises up into the atmosphere, creating low pressure near the ground and clouds up in the air. The air can also be pushed upwards by hills or large mountains. The upward motion is called lift. The moisture is collected by the wind from large bodies of water, such as a big lake or the ocean. If temperature is below freezing, 0 °C (32 °F), near the ground and up in the clouds, precipitation will fall as snow, ice, rain and snow mixed (sleet), ice pellets or even graupel (soft hail). Since cold air can not hold as much moisture as warm air, the total precipitation will be less than at higher temperature.

The monochrome perspective of a bridge connecting two urban buildings emphasizes the harmonious connection between nature and architecture.

Tiny hair-like structures of salt grow and combine to form the salt flats at Badwater in Death Valley. Here is a wider view of the same area showing how the salt combines to form geometric pools.

This macro shot was taken with a Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens coupled with a Quantaray + 3 magnifying filter. I obtained the magnifying filter from the Ritz/Wolf camera website for around $25.

The vibration reduction (VR) eliminates most of the shake during a handheld shot and the magnifying filter gives a much closer view of the cell structure.....

One caveat - the magnifying filter has a very limited depth of field and can be tricky when trying to get the correct focal point. I had to take a half dozen shots to get one that worked.

A bandstand was erected in the early 1860s as a focal point of the original landscape design of Singapore Botanic Gardens. The present octagonal structure was built in 1930 and staged early evening performances by military bands for many years. Though no longer used for music, the Bandstand continues to be one of the best-known features of the singapore Botanic Gardens.

The Monadnock Building (historically the Monadnock Block; pronounced /məˈnædnɒk/ mə-nad-nok), is a skyscraper located at 53 West Jackson Boulevard in the south Loop community area of Chicago,Illinois. The north half of the building was designed by the firm of Burnham & Root and built in 1891. The tallest commercial load-bearing masonry building ever constructed, it employed the first portal system of wind bracing in America. Its decorative staircases represent the first use of aluminum in building construction. The south half, constructed in 1893, was designed by by Holabird & Roche and is similar in color and profile to the original, but the design is more traditionally ornate. When completed, it was the largest office building in the world. The success of the building was the catalyst for an important new business center at the southern end of the Loop.

It had been raining on and off all morning but there’s always something to shoot. Taking shelter under the bridge I thought I’d snap the under structure of the SHB… it’s amazing this was constructed without any safety gear or ropes!

A barn or outbuilding of some sort, located at Theta, in Campbell County, Virginia. It was once a flourishing village but now has only a couple of homes and an old abandoned mill. It is all rural today.

Boasting 35 hectares of greenery and 3,000 m² of ecological gardens promoting biodiversity, the Parc de la Villette is one of the largest and loveliest green spaces in Paris. A multi-disciplinary arts and culture venue, it attracts more than 10 million visitors each year.

With 26 bright red ‘follies’ – architectural structures designed by Bernard Tschumi – dotting the landscape (each devoted to a different cultural or leisure activity), the Parc de la Villette is one vast playground for Paris lovers.

28.09.2023. These are wooden remains of an old pier on the beach in Great Yarmouth.

I am fairly good now at spotting buildings that are likely to be “listed” buildings, that is buildings that have been designated as being of architectural, historical or cultural significance so it was a shock to discover this fine structure in the middle of Blyth to have been deemed to not fit the criteria to warrant being listed!

This red-brick Hall was built by the First Baron Barnby in 1927 as a memorial and thanks. Thanks to the fact that his son returned safe from WW1 and as a memorial to all those that lost their lives and never returned.

It is now used for many functions from meetings, groups and the like to plays and music performances.
