KEEL BEACH | IRELAND

After hiking up a nearby hill, we saw the sun setting behind the far hills, so we headed down to the beach to get some good shots.

Those structures were the reward and even as I have quite a lot pictures of them... I now believe, I didn't took enough.

Those shapes felt so perfect!

Stoa means walkway or portico in Greek. Attalos is in Athens, in the agora, an area bounded by hills, northwest of the Acropolis. The current building was reconstructed from 1952 to 1956. The stoa's dimensions are 115 by 20 metres (377 by 66 ft) and it is made of Pentelic marble and limestone. Each story of the two stories had 21 rooms lining the western wall. Scholars walked the portico discussing their ideas and philosophies. Now the Stoa houses the Museum of the Ancient Agora. The structure at the back is the Church of the Holy Apostles.

This odd little structure is located in the Landmark Sinkhole. Larger sinkholes like this one have been known to swallow up structures like houses, barns, and buildings.

Walking home from the office last night, decided to walk to the station via canal street, first time in 2-3+ years, I look up to find an entire skyscraper had appeared since I was last there. Kinda surreal

Cropped to show the structure of the feathers, which most interested me in the image. I find that the R7 creates quite noisy images when you need to use high ISO for birds. I have been trialling DxO pureraw for a couple of days. So far it has given me better results than Canon's DPP with Photoshop's AI Denoise.

This macro shot was taken with a Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens coupled with a Quantaray + 3 magnifying filter. I obtained the magnifying filter from the Ritz/Wolf camera website for around $25.

The vibration reduction (VR) eliminates most of the shake during a handheld shot and the magnifying filter gives a much closer view of the cell structure.....

One caveat - the magnifying filter has a very limited depth of field and can be tricky when trying to get the correct focal point. I had to take a half dozen shots to get one that worked.

The end of the Line! And what a line it used to be!

The Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway, later MSLR/GCR/LNER/BR, Woodhead Route opened through Hadfield in 1845 and was a major trans-Pennine transport link for nearly 140 years. Approved by the LNER pre-war the line was finally electrified by BR at 1500 vDC in 1955. It was the most modern railway in Britain at the time but was unfortunately the only main line using 1.5 kVDC and this system was soon superseded by the later network standard of 25 kV AC.

When the infrastructure needed upgrading the decision was made to close the line instead and all traffic between Hadfield and Penistone ceased in 1981. The Manchester commuter lines were eventually upgraded to 25 kV AC and trains still run to Hadfield & Glossop via Dinting Junction. Interestingly as seen here the original 70-year old overhead structures have been reused...

The castle of Penedono was one fortresses referred in the donation of D. Flâmula (or Chamôa Rodrigues) to the Monastery of Guimarães (on 11 June 960); it was mentioned part of the properties inherited from her mother, D. Leodegúndia Dias, the daughter of Count Diogo Fernandes and his wife D. Oreca. At the time of testament, the document had recommended the sale of the structure, in order for its monies to be used to help pay the ransom of captives, support pilgrims and assist monasteries. The donation had the effect of securing an important strategic point and organizational linchpin of the Beira Alta Interior region. Nothing is recorded of the original configuration of the redoubt.
