And the girder is gently lifted, assuming you can say "gently" when referring to a girder that is 145 feet long, weighing 128,000 pounds.

Alarming fissures are opening up at the east end of the church, plasterwork has been removed accordingly to reveal the extent of the cracks.

My final church of the day, St Bartholomew's at the virtually non-existent village of Foston, a church hidden away behind trees on a quiet rural lane, very easily missed. I arrived to find the church being stewarded by a nice lady who was about to lock it up again so my timing was fortunate indeed!

The church looks small at first sight and for good reason, having been truncated on three sides, a shrinking population over the centuries having resulted in a shrinking church! The biggest impact has been the loss of the original chancel, the present east wall roughly marking where the chancel once began. The south aisle too has gone, although its arcade remains clearly visible inside, and the tower is a peculiar oblong shape as a result of the collapse its western face in the 18th century and the subsequent reduction in size when it was rebuilt.

Inside it becomes clear how much earlier the origins of this building are, since the north arcade is Norman work, but the wall it carries is evidently older still, as witnessed by the surviving head of a former window above the easternmost arch, presumably part of the church's Anglo Saxon predecessor. The church was somewhat restored in the Victorian period but there are still things to enjoy, most noticeably the large 17th century Faunt tomb in the north aisle bearing effigies of the deceased and his wife, somewhat rustic in quality but still of great interest.

Foston church is usually kept locked when not in use for services. Currently the east wall is causing some concern as cracks have opened up on either side suggesting that this part of the building was never properly bonded with the original parts after the old chancel was demolished and this end of the nave infilled. This will be a heavy burden and a major challenge for the small community that still uses this church, we can only hope some assistance will be given before the situation gets any worse.

PT&P custom designed and fabricated a 27' x 16' x 21' structural frame to be placed on the sea-bed for an offshore rig. This assembly will be used as an undersea cable support frame, capable of withstanding a load of 600 Kilonewtons (68,000 lbs for each pad). It is constructed of 8 tube-steel, a 10 channel, and a steel plate. The frame will remain stationary on the sea-bed and is designed to endure heavy wave action when lowered to or raised from the sea-bed.

Finite element analysis of the lifting lug on the structure was performed to verify load conditions.  A trial fit-up of bolted sections was also conducted to ensure the structural frame will assemble easily before being placed in position.

AJ Pipon Panoramique f13cm Foyer 13x18 on Nikon D800

The AJ Pipon Panoramique f13cm lens is very small, which creates a very dark image in the viewfinder of the Nikon D800. As a result focussing the lens in low light, incl. overcast sky, is very difficult. This is exacerbated by the fact that the focussing helicoid of course allows movement beyond infinity (while 'normal' lenses have a infinity lock); thus even focussing on infinity poses problems.—This is not surprising, as even when choosing the largest aperture on the wheel (5mm), the maximum aperture the lens is capable of is f/26 (it could be improved to f/11 when removing the wheel).

Structural steel "Delta" girders sit atop Pier 6.

The great north-facing window of the main hall retains its original mid 15th century stained glass depicting King Henry VI surrounded by various predecessors (including King Arthur & Emperor Constantine at the extremities). The window is considered to be the work of the King's glazier William Neve, and whilst it has been restored over the centuries with various pieces requiring replacement its original design remains more or less intact.

Coventry's ancient guildhall is considered the finest in the country and the grandest of the city's surviving medieval secular buildings, still in use for civic functions to this day. Most of the complex dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries and features a great hall as its major room with other chambers around the adjoining courtyard. The complex is entered from Bayley Lane through a vaulted gateway arch standing immediately south of the ruins of St Michael's cathedral.

The great hall is the showpiece here and is remarkable for its impressive interior beneath a richly carved timber roof, restored to the original 15th century design following bomb damage during the Coventry Blitz in 1940; the structural woodwork appears to have been entirely renewed though many of the carved bosses and seated angel figures appear to have survived the damage (it isn't clear to what extent these are original or restored owing to their postwar repainting which disguises any blend of old and new).

The focal point of the interior is the great window at the northern end which retains its 15th century stained glass depicting nine kings set within simulated niches and appears to have been the work of one of the royal glaziers. Below the window (protected behind glass) is a large tapestry dating back to c1500, another significant medieval survival.

St Mary's Guildhall would be a worthy visitor attraction anywhere else but sadly Coventry's council authorities have long neglected its potential, generally only opening to visitors Sun-Thurs but not at weekends in the more tourist friendly months. There is some hope things may change with some more enlightened individuals reviewing the situation. It is currently closed throughout 2020 for renovation and archaeological investigation.

A52 Challenge: Triangle composition

Attempted this one again since it's an abundance of triangles and the grass under the structure had been cut which allowed me to sit on the ground. Still not 100% perfect, but closer than my previous attempts. It's so hard to see it all on the tiny screen of my camera while on scene to get everything lined up. So I just have to do my best and see what I've gotten after I get all the way home.

These are the first girders to be set as part of the main bridge.

Dortechs glass and steel bolt assembly system can be suspended or stacked. It can be fixed back to structural steelwork, Glass fins, tension trusses & cable nets.

The product is ideal for Facades, Glass Bridges, Internal Partitions, Shopfronts, Balustrading, Glass Canopies & Roofs.

The final product has a Completely Flush external appearance, Clean lines with no intersecting mullions or transoms.

The system Maximises light transmission and has a range of mechanical fixings to suit aesthetic objectives.

The two largest exhibits... and perhaps the hardest and the softest ~_^

My days off must be here soon, as I'm playing around with this stuff...

On April 13 crews removed the crane which held the new steel girders in place.

5 January. The structural topping is applied. A high tech combination of polypropylene fibres and cement is poured onto the polystyrene slab: 75 mm thick it will become part of the thermal envelope of the house..

When I went to the cemetery yesterday, I picked up some parakeet feathers for my nephew.

As they were from beneath the roost, they were slightly bespattered, so I washed them in a mild washing-up liquid solution. Hence, I found out that wetting destroys the structural blue and green coloration of the feathers. The colour returned as they dried out.
