After a recent storm, (one of many) i found several of these pieces of wood knocked off the end of Southsea Pier by large waves. There was evidence of damage to the sides and end of the pier.
Hopefully measures will be taken to look after the pier before it's too late.

Fountain Place, located at 1445 Ross Avenue in the Arts District of downtown Dallas is a 62-story modern skyscraper. Standing at a structural height of 720 feet, it is the fifth-tallest skyscraper in Dallas. (Excluding antennas and spires, Fountain Place is currently the 4th tallest building in Dallas.) It is also the 15th tallest building in Texas.
The original plans for Fountain Place called for a twin tower, rotated 90 degrees from the original, to be built on an adjacent block. Due to the collapse of the Texas oil, banking and real estate industry in the early eighties (the savings and loan scandal) the development was never completed. The building was designed by the award winning architects I.M. Pei and Partners and was completed in 1986.
The building is known for its unique architecture. It was designed as a large, multi-faceted prism. Its various slanted sides cause the building to have a completely different profile from all directions. The building gets its name from the wide array of fountains built in the large plaza at its base.
Trivia/Jeopardy Factoid - In the later seasons of the TV series, Dallas, Fountain Place was home to the offices of Ewing Oil.

The Light Station is named for the distinctive white rocks that loom just offshore. These rocks, and the rugged shoreline, are home to seabirds, sea lions and elephant seals. Over 70 native plant species can be found on the 19 acres surrounding the Light Station.
Earthquakes over the years had caused damage to the lighthouse. An earthquake on the last day of 1948 resulted in the upper part of the Lighthouse being declared structurally unsound. In 1949, the upper three levels (fourth landing, watch room and lantern) were removed.

Two buildings on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus: The brutalist design of the building in the foreground speaks such things as impersonal abstraction, geometry, concrete and technology (that grid of dots on the panels in the middle of the photo almost seems to resemble nuclear reactor control rods inserted into the concrete). You'd think this would be the building housing the sciences, but no, it's the 1960s-era George L. Mosse Humanities Building. And while the red-brick Victorian fantasy castle in the background would seem to be a better natural fit with the humanities, that's actually Science Hall, completed in 1887. (The sprawling, romantic exterior does conceal an example of advanced technology for its time -- a steel skeleton. Essentially, it's a mini-skyscraper. Today, it's the oldest existing building in the world to use structural steel in significant amounts.)

I used 1/2" foam for this costume because a) it's relatively inexpensive, b) it's easy to work with, and c) it was the only size they had in grey. But it needed more support so it didn't flop all over the place. I bought a sheet of "GreenGuard" insulation at Lowe's. It's basically a glorified styrofoam - light and stiff, perfect for gluing inside the costume to add structure.
