The birdcage action is fully removed, exposing the strings and the cast iron plate behind. The sounding board is the wood behind and resonates the sound of the notes.

Inverted Hamsas (day/night; yin/yang; up/down, etc.) – protection from all directions :)
Intended as a gift to a friend. My first experience at scoring and cutting (not nipping) glass – wanted to try my hand at stained glass but without soldering. Followed the instructions (and pictures) in the book to score and cut convex and concave shapes – found the latter more difficult. Pieces are fit together tightly and strings of beads are applied along the grout lines. Intersections are dressed up as sort of stylised “eyes” – one of the elements that hamsas usually contain – to ward off an “evil eye”. Overall impression – involves significant beforehand planning – creating a pattern on paper, cutting it out carefully, applying paper pieces to the glass, then cutting, grinding and fitting together. I’ve found it not as meditative as mosaics…
For those who don’t know what Hamsa is here is the excerpt from Wikipedia: “Hamsa (Khamsa) is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa.[1] The khamsa is often incorporated in jewelry and wall hangings, as a superstitious defense against the evil eye.”
I've decided to sell my lovely Larry Carlton guitar on ebay, so I took some photos today. If it sells I will get the Nikon Nikkor AF 200mm f/4D ED-IF AF Micro, which will be about $1400 with tax and shipping. Or I will wait for my tax refund next March.
Guitar is extra special because it is #79 of only 100 made, signed and numbered by Larry himself; handmade by Valley Arts Guitars circa 1990. "Mint condition" doesn't do it justice. Once I figure out the shipping I will post it on ebay.

The Manhattan Bridge landing in DUMBO from across the East River in the Lower East Side.
The guitar strings of my second guitar. Bought around 5 years ago, it still performs well but just hurts a little on the fingers.

I know I already added some photos for this month's Photoplay prompt, but took some of my 5 year old playing her guitar today and couldn't resist sharing them. :-)
Always a bit of a pain in the ass on account of the floating bridge.
But new strings feel like ... like new shoes in September.
My beloved Orthey Autoharp. I am fascinated with how the lensbaby captures the strings.

7DOS Week #38 ~ Sport. Minimal Sunday. Strings from a tennis racket....and it feels we will never play outside again...as it snowed AGAIN today.
Ok, here's what I did with the finished draft. On the left, it's simply shaded. The shaded piece is a photocopy because I knew that Giverny really deserves color, but I wanted to see it shaded too. The shaded version was copied onto cold press paper, and would have been better on hotpress. Oh, well! The colored original is colored with Derwent Inktense pencils with and without water. Since it's an "Impressionist" type piece, I wasn't too careful about overlapping colors, etc. It only took about 3 hours to do all the versions. SO MUCH FUN!! Thanks, Traci and Sandra.
