Pinocchio for the reception "Happy ever after" fairy tale day.
When we arrived at school this morning, his teacher was Little Red Riding hood - cape and basket at the ready - and the other teacher was a fairy.
Knew the lederhosen would come in handy one day...
Boris stands on a scene and plays the violin in this large acrylic drawing. Behind him, like projected on a screen, I drew some mythological figures whose imagery seem to me to mingle the theme of at least traces of donkeys (or horses) with music. Most of the figures here are after two paintings from Italian Renaissance, one by Titian, the other by Cima da Conegliano, who made the old Greek legend about Marsyas their subject. Marsyas was a satyr, represented in early Greek art with the legs, ears and tail of a donkey. He found the flute which Athena had thrown away, and became such an accomplished musician that he challenged Apollo, the god of music, to a musical contest. When king Midas was appointed judge and declared Marsyas the winner, the god was so enraged that he flayed Marsyas and gave Midas donkey's ears. The theme of the donkey appears twice in this strangely cruel tale about musicians: one one hand because Marsyas is partly donkey, and then because Midas gets donkey's ears.
The flying centaur musician teaching a young hero how to play the lyre (to the left) is after a Roman fresco from Herculaneum, and I added the the satyr-god Pan teaching his half-brother Daphnis to play the pan-pipes (after an antique sculpture by Heliodorus), because it looks to me like a related theme.

Two images taken at the Crystal Springs farmers' market held here in Brunswick, ME. The duo, Will and Michele, call themselves Twisted Strings. Lots of background distractions that I tried to minimize.
The Maasdam had a string quartet, "Adagio Strings," which played mostly classical music. Their selections were mostly classical. It looks like all Holland America cruise ships have a string quartet by this name. There was one on our cruise on the Ryndam in 2010.
They played most evenings in the Explorer Lounge on deck 8 from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. It was a convenient stop between dinner and the show.
I am back from a few days away up in Emmet County for a gathering of film photography enthusiasts. I shot about 15 rolls of film, half 35mm and half medium format. The weather was very foggy the first day and into the second, and the vegetation was saturated (as were my socks). This was taken up in Mackinac Co. along the N shore of Lake Huron. Yes, it's a digital shot. I used my Olympus C5050 for snapshots.
The only place where life should be a battlefield is the war itself. Every other area, just as the strings of the guitar can be adjusted. Work, marriage, location, etc. We live once! Once! One-time show!
But we were inside now, and we were going to play some guitar......

A streak of sunlight lets itself in through my bedroom window in the afternoon, reflects off the bright orange wall and lights up the whole room with a warm, fresh, orange glow.
My Yamaha CX40 also has an orange finish.
Combine all these things and you get a brilliantly lit photo.
