v.z.w. Kant als Kunst en
de ontwerpers nodigen U uit op de opening van de tentoonstelling Strings
op donderdag 6 juni 2013 om 18.00 uur.
Reeds in 2000 was de Internationale Betonac Wedstrijd de aanleiding om in de Design Vlaanderen Galerie een stand van zaken te brengen van de toenmalige textielkunst in Vlaanderen. De Internationale Betonac Wedstrijd (1985- 2000) was een initiatief van Betty Cuykx, oprichtster van de v.z.w. Kant als Kunst en bekend tot ver buiten de eigen landsgrenzen. Vele kunstenaars wereldwijd namen eraan deel en iedere editie kreeg workshops en een tentoonstelling die internationaal rondreisde.
Dertien jaar later ligt het accent op het recent werk van de laureaten en genomineerden van de vijf edities. Al die jaren zijn zij trouw gebleven aan een erg persoonlijk en diepgaand onderzoek naar de expressieve mogelijkheden van het gegeven ‘draad’. Schaalvergrotingen, ruimtelijkheid en monumentaliteit, experimenten met andere materialen dan de textiele draad, het decoratieve maar ook geometrisch- abstraherende aspect, het draad- en lijnenspel, de transparantie zijn zowat de rode draad doorheen deze tentoonstelling.
Nu wordt eveneens aansluiting gezocht met ontwerpers uit Vlaanderen die op een hedendaagse manier omgaan met oude handwerktechnieken en het ornament niet schuwen.
'Strings' wordt meteen ook het allerlaatste optreden van de v.z.w. Kant als Kunst – La Dentelle un Art asbl.

By Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava. The bridge is designed to allude to King David's harp and create links in the Holy City. It is situated at the extremely busy entrance to Jerusalem. However, these pictures were taken during Sabbath, so it was extremely quiet. It is the tallest structure on the Jerusalem skyline. Designed to transport the modern light rail system and pedestrians over a major intersection and plaza. The 360-meter bridge is supported by a 119-meter high tower and 66 cables.

Day 3 of my B&W Facebook Challenge. This is also for #40 of the 365 treasure hunt "Strings".
I download all my photos to my desktop and on that screen this image is very dark. I only use my laptop for browsing the web and on that this image is quite light, showing up all the dust! I tried to make it dark to hide the dust.

今天看了一部很特別的電影《Strings》
場景裡面的所有人物都是由線控的木偶所扮演。
除了對於人為技術的操控感到讚嘆之外
其實我想闡述的是：
在生活的週遭也纏繞著許多線：電話線、網路線、傳輸線、電視線等
這些看似不起眼的人造線，卻造就了彼此不論是訊息的交流、感情的維繫、某些禁忌的媒介，做為一種快速的流動與鏈結。流動提供便捷的工具，使得人們之間不再隔著屏障，彼此的思想得以交織互動。場所、空間與界域，在交會下透過電子脈絡形成通路，成就各個獨立體的出口。
在這樣高速且瞬時的流動下，卻缺乏一種實質上的接觸，人與人之間彷彿蒙上一層面紗，經由各種虛擬的管道，逕自扮演起與現實相反的完美角色，主體與外在表徵互為對立關係，遮掩真實，並異質它的本體。
This is one of my favorite strings by Molossus (aka Sandra Strait). I've used it several times. In honor of Sandra I also used her tangles on this. They are Junction, Geer # One, Klok #2, and Riffle, plus some filler tipple and line work. It's also my very first attempt at "steampunk" which I had to look up to even find out what it means, lol.
In the middle of a restless crowd, a balloon seller stands quietly, holding dreams tied to fragile strings. The balloons rise toward the sky, light and free, while he remains grounded beneath them. In this monochrome frame, joy floats above hardship, and hope hangs gently in the air—waiting for someone to believe in it.
