We detoured off the Blue Ridge today onto a gravel road which eventually led us to Pine Mountain. This was one of the wonderful sites we found along that road. Right after this shot, almost as soon I got back in the car, there appeared a black bear in middle of the road ahead of us! At first I thought it was a stray dog, then my husband goes, "Look at that." Well, it was just standing there staring at us. So, I thought maybe it was a big wolf (even though there aren't any wild wolfs in this area). It wasn't until he mentioned "bear" that it dawned on me...DUH!! (I might mention here that I also have terrible eye sight.) So, I'm all excited trying to switch lenses on my camera and settings from where I just took the waterfall photo... needless to say, just when I had everything about situated, the bear ran off into the woods. I still jumped out of the car and tried to see if I could spot him in the woods somewhere, but he was long gone.

Maybe next time I'll keep my handy-dandy point-and-shoot at the ready by my side.

This is an older shot from my archives, taken in the Mount Rainier National Forest, Mount Rainier Washington. It is a very peaceful area and there are many of these streams, and creeks with easy access. Mount Rainier is a landscape photographers paradise!
