At the time of posting, we have, sadly, had to close Clevedon Pier due to the impact of the Coronavirus.
Between April and June, we would normally welcome between 20,000 and 25,000 visitors – depending on the weather, which would bring us income of between £60,000 and £70,000 to help fund our critical maintenance programme. Whilst we have been working hard to reduce our income, for example cutting all non-essential spending and drawing on Government aid to cover staff salaries, we are now faced with the complete loss of our critical Spring revenue.
And, of course, the Pier will still be facing a relentless onslaught from the sea. The ferocious tides of the Bristol Channel – the second highest tidal range in the world – place continual pressure on the structure. Because of the recent storms we are undertaking a drone survey to check for damage, as any faults not addressed urgently will just worsen and become more expensive over time, and that is a cost that we urgently need to address.
We need your help to support us at this difficult time and there are three ways you can do so.
● Make a donation at clevedonpier.co.uk/donations/
● Buy a Pier plaque at clevedonpier.co.uk/a-plaque-for-all-occasions/ These can be dedicated to a person (perhaps a new child or grandchild) or can mark an event or any special occasion.
● Buy an annual pass for yourself or a friend, so you can come on a walk down the Pier whenever you choose when it reopens. New Annual Passes will be valid for 12 months from the date we reopen and can be bought here clevedonpier.co.uk/shop
Only got to snap off a couple of shots before i got the wrath of the cold rain. Nothing like a Texas storm.
'Rauli' storm hit eastern Finland on Saturday 27th of August. Wind speeds of 21 m/s were metered. While I was removing ND filter wind blew it away from my hand. In retrospect much shorter exposure should've been used to capture power of the waves and wind.

A very brief yet intense storm at about 1600 hrs on June 13th brought with it 100 km/h+ howling winds and hail. Shot from my balcony in Toronto's Distillery District looking south. Not even Lake Ontario was visible. Traffic on the Gardiner Expressway was at a standstill yet the Go Train just pummelled through it.
"I Will Praise You in this Storm" by Casting Crowns

I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say, Amen and it's still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain, "I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands
And praise the God who gives and takes away
And I'll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I've cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry, You raised me up again
But my strength is almost gone
How can I carry on if I can't find You
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain, "I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands
And praise the God who gives and takes away
And I'll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I've cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth
I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth
And I'll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I've cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
I was passing over the railway bridge and saw this rain storm to the west. Some poor souls were under this. Even though it was taken mid afternoon in May 2005 it looks like a scene just before sunset. I do recall it being incredibly dark for a spring afternoon. It may look black and white but it actually is a colour shot.
The sky is a neighbourhood, so keep it down
The heart is a storybook, a star burned out
The sky is a neighbourhood, don’t make a sound
Lights coming up ahead, don’t look now

3 faces of the storm approaching over the hills.
You can’t hear the quiet punctuated by the clamour of sparrows and the call of the meadowlark.

Since the kidlets have been unable to get to sleep at night after so many Christmas late nights (grrrrrrr!), I decided to take them for a wander in the weather yesterday to tire them out!
The wind had been howling and the rain battering the windows since the early hours but, by the time I dragged them out of bed, it was pretty calm and brightening up.
By lunchtime, the sun was shining so I thought, this will be quite enjoyable - up the Lickey Hills, bracing wind in our hair etc :)
However, as we got into the car to go over to Beacon Hill to embrace the wind, there was a hailstorm! The car was covered in a sheet of little icy balls.
Once we reached the Beacon, the hail stopped - at least until we got out of the car! ;)
It was fab up there! Battered by the wind, belted by hail, leaping a giant puddle to gain access to "the castle" (aside from Enso who was sensibly sporting wellingtons!), watching as the hail storms scattered across the city before us, broken by glimpses of blue sky and pinpoints on sun rays.
We only had one accident - Kizzie (10) slipped over pretty much right away so had a muddy bum!! I managed not to let any of them get blown over the edge!
Ace.
<3 the good old British weather! :)
Managed to take just a couple of photos without my iPhone being killed by the hail!

The Second Severn Crossing (Welsh: Ail Groesfan Hafren) is a bridge which carries the M4 motorway over the River Severn between England and Wales, inaugurated on 5 June 1996 by Charles, Prince of Wales to augment the traffic capacity of the original Severn Bridge built in 1966.
