Little Stony Creek leading up to the Cascades, Giles County, Virginia
"Little Stony Creek, a minor tributary of the New River, heads at Mountain Lake and in the highlands within and below the Mountain Lake Wilderness. There it occupies an elevated basin underlain by Devonian and Silurian rocks consisting largely of siltstones, sandstones and quartzites. Cascade Falls, with a vertical drop of more than 60 ft (18 meters) separates this basin from the lower valley, which is largely developed in Ordovician rocks. Although part of the lower valley is floored by rich alluvium, the upper two miles, below the Falls, is a semi-gorge with rock falls, talus and other colluvium that extends to the stream and clogs its channels. This colluvium is derived in part from Ordovician carbonate-rich rocks of undifferentiated Reedsville, Eggleston and Moccasin Formations. Consequently, ground water flowing through the colluvium is rich in nutrients such as calcium and magnesium and this is reflected in the rich flora found here. Looming Butt Mountain, which rises to 4200 ft (1280 meters), and Doe Mountain form the valley sides and create scenic views of superior quality." (asecular.com)

A long exposure from Little Stony Point in Cold Spring, NY.
I was hoping for some low-lying fog on the Hudson as the temperature was predicted to reach the dewpoint, but unfortunately, this didn't happen. As an alternative, I decided to try a long exposure on the Canon 14mm f2.8 II using the Lee SW 150 II filter system. I feel it produced decent results, but it sure takes some time setting up. I may try installing the adapter ring before arriving on location when I think there's a possibility for some long exposure work.

스페인 몬세라트의 베네딕토 수도원,
바르셀로나에서 1시간 거리에 있는 몬세라트 수도원은 기암괴석으로 이루어진 바위산에 위치해 있는 수도원이다. 구불구불한 산길을 돌아 한참을 올라가면 마치 딴 세상에 온듯한 느낌이 드는데 이 곳은 소원을 들어 준다는 검은 성모상을 모신 성당과 80명의 남자수사들이 살고 있다. 교회당은 수도원 옆에 있는데 그곳에 La Moreneta, 검은 성모마리아가 모셔져 있다. 검은 성모마리아상을 보기 위해서는 교회 옆면을 통해 오른쪽으로 들어가야 한다.
자연을 사랑하는 만큼이나 신앙심이 깊었던 가우디가 자주 찾은곳이기도 하다.
몬세라 수도원은 해발 약700미터고지 산중턱에 만들어져 있음. 12세기 경에 검은마리아상이 발견되어 이곳에 수도원이 건설되어 이지역을 지켜준다 믿고 있다. 몬세라 수도원외에 성당,미술관,기념품 샵등이 있으며 , 성지순례의 경우 이곳에서 숙박도 가능하다.

This is an early sunset shot from June 22nd at Stony Creek Metro Park.
It is a 3 exposure HDR, +1, 0, -1. Tone mapping done with Photomatix Basic.
The colors are pretty much true to life here ... it was a wonderful "golden hour" moment.
Last weekend I got to visit Stony Creek Metropark. I've been seeing a lot of interesting shots from there and I've really wanted to go! It was a dreary day so it was a challenge trying to keep the sky out of my shots, but I think I succeeded on this one!

Stony Run is a lovely urban oasis running through the middle of north-central Baltimore. On Wednesday we walked the 2 1/2 miles from Wyman Park, near Johns Hopkins University, to its end near Northern Parkway. Part woods, part city, the trail follows the old Ma & Pa (Maryland & Pennsylvania) railway bed. Along the way you pass by the Hopkins campus, as well as a couple of the private schools in that area. We have lived here our entire lives, and this was the first time we have walked this pretty trail. HFF!
