Just northwest of the St Mary's Abbey building in Trim is the 40m Yellow Steeple, once the bell tower of the abbey, dating from 1368 but damaged by Cromwell's soldiers in 1649. It takes its name from the golden colour of the stonework at sunset.

it's never hard to tell when things are done.

I took a bunch of HDR photographs at Hanging Rock State Park as part of my final project in my digital photography class.

The white balance was on the wrong setting, so the photo ended up more blue than I intended it to be.

Proper names are poetry in the raw. Like all poetry they are untranslatable.

Jenkin Chapel was built by voluntary contributions in 1733. It was constructed of the local gritstone with a saddleback roof and and an outside flight of steps leading to a gallery (a small tower was added in 1754-55). Jenkin was the name of a local farming family that gave the district its name. The church was originally dedicated to St. John the Baptist, but was only consecrated in 1894 when it was re-dedicated to St. John the Evangelist.

The chapel lies at the junction of three ancient trackways, known as "salters' ways" because they were used by packhorses carrying salt. Later the tracks were used by cattle drovers and sheep dealers.

We were very honored to have a garden featured in the Spring Issue of Twin Cities Space Magazine. Gathering Places as it is now known is located in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was a co-design with the home owner and myself. Enjoy the article and the construction photos in this set. Thanks, Glenn!

31.12.2006. Herculaneum. I took this photo, because this kind of stonework is so common in Herculaneum and Pompeii. I suppose I'd expected marble (unrealistically) or brick.

The Cardiff Castle visitor center includes the ruins of the old Roman walls. This wall was buried for centuries before being rediscovered in 1922. It was part of the Roman stone fort built during the 4th cent AD. The modern city of Cardiff grew from its Roman origins.

The Hindu monuments: Caves 13-29

The Hindu caves were constructed between the middle of sixth century to the end of the eighth century, in two periods. Nine cave temples were excavated in the beginning of 6th century. Along with these nine, four other caves (caves 17–29) were constructed during the Kalachuri period. The work first commenced in Caves 28, 27 and 19. These were followed by two most impressive caves constructed in the early phase – Caves 29 and 21. Along with these two, work was underway at Caves 20 and 26, and slightly later at Caves 17, 19 and 28.

The later caves such as 14, 15 and 16 were constructed during the Rashtrakuta period, some dating to 8th to 10th-centuries. The work began in Caves 14 and 15 and then in Cave 16, which were completed in the 8th-century with the support of king Krishna I. Cave number 16 is the world's largest monolith. All these structures represent a different style of creative vision and execution skills. Some were of such complexity that they required several generations of planning and co-ordination to complete.
