The Star of Canada was a cargo steamer which foundered and began to break up after being driven onto a reef near Gisborne in 1913. Salvagers managed to remove the entire wheelhouse in one piece and it was re-erected on a house plot in Gisborne where it served as the extension to the house until the late 1980s. In danger of terminal decay at that point, it was moved to the riverside adjacent to Te Tairawhiti Museum and restored to form a permanent display.
