Brian Holloway, physics instructor and Army engineer, applied the principles of electricity and magnetism in a variety of “science tricks,” including the ever-popular and hair-raising Van de Graaff generator. The large electrostatic ball aptly shows how an electric field comes from static charges, whereas other demonstrations showed how a magnetic field derives from moving charges. The Center for STEM Education hosted the 3rd annual West Point Middle School STEM Workshop May 29-June 1, with 110 students throughout the nation participating in this hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Gravity holds the steerer clamp in place on a much longer piece of extension tube while I tack this joint. After brazing and a partial finish, the extension is mitered at the proper length and phase relative to the steerer axis.
Those are common M5 rack boss pieces, which I carve deeply so that the bolt just skims the clamp OD. After these are brazed to the bit of tube that will become the bar clamp, this all is loaded onto the stem fixture.

This presentation summarizes THREE CLASSICAL, separate, independent, and quintessential REAL-WORLD population-environment calamities (each of which involved mass mortalities and/or 99% die-offs) that either began or were actually already well-underway in surrounding environments that remained 99.998% unoccupied (2/1000ths of 1% occupied) and which, visually-speaking, appeared to remain ALMOST ENTIRELY EMPTY. (In other words, all three classical real-world studies showed population catastrophes in vast "open-space" conditions and suggest or argue quite powerfully that humankind's own "vast open-space" suppositions may constitute exceedingly dangerous misperceptions.)
The three real-world examples assessed in this presentation include routine outbreaks of red-tide dinoflagellates (e.g. Karenia brevis) in marine environments (which can kill millions of tons of fish and even manatees by their release of wastes into their surroundings), and two separate classical and independent climb-and-collapse population-explosions / 99%-plus die-offs in reindeer herds (Rangifer tarandus) on islands in the Bering Sea.
