Back in August, Abby, Mike and I were on a road trip through NW OH, and chanced upon this giant fiberglass steer next to a grain elevator W of Findlay. I didn't have to think twice to steer over to a nearby park and take some shots. Yashica A with Provia 100.

“Following rendezvous, and when the LEM is approximately 500 feet from the coupled Command/Service Modules, the LEM’s Commander will manually maneuver the module to a docking attitude and increase or decrease the rate of closure until complete docking is accomplished.

Once the coupling process is complete, the two-man LEM crew prepares to transfer to the Command Module and rejoin the third member of the Apollo team. Pressures between the modules are equalized, LEM subsystems are turned off, and scientific equipment and collected specimens are passed into the Command Module. When the transfer is complete, the LEM is jettisoned in orbit, and left to impact upon the moon at a later time. This concludes the LEM mission.”

Reads like an early Grumman description, a little stiff & 'clinical', not something composed by a journalist.

I’ve never seen this depiction before, and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a rendition of the Command/Service Modules by Mr. Kavafes. Which btw is sporting dual dissimilar antennas, interesting. Finally, note also the LEM Commander’s face, visible through the spacecraft’s window.

A Texas Longhorn stands on a dry grassy hill looking back at you, the viewer. With a white and brown coat and two foot long horns, this steer gives a lazy flick of its tail.

The Texas Longhorn is a breed of cow descended from the first cattle brought to the America's by Christopher Columbus. This particular breed is name for it's long horns which can stretch up to four feet from tip to tip. It is well suited for dryer conditions.

Inside my BMW M Sports - strangely we had lots of sun today and it was streaming through the windscreen so I did a little processing to emphasise that nice fact!

Our Daily Challenge - IN THE CAR

three hairy highland cow shots

Definitely a gentle giant! The Highland cattle on the island seemed very easy-going and, most importantly from my point of view, also slow moving (I really don't do action shots). As you can probably tell, I was able to get very close to this gorgeous guy. :)

The following information about the Highland cattle on Lundy is taken from the Landmark Trust's website:

Initially brought to the island in September 2012 as part of the island’s conservation programme, the six Highland steers have become a popular favourite with visitors and staff alike, encouraging names such as Boris and Schmoo.

The Highland cattle breed is ideally suited to a life on Lundy as their thick, insulating coats allow them to tolerate the blustery Lundy winter, and their large horns allow them to cool themselves in the summer sunshine, although standing in the ponds also seems to be a favourite pastime.

Along with the ponies, the steers meander and munch their way around the plateau between Quarter and Halfway walls. The vegetation of this area is mainly comprised of rough foliage such as Purple Moor Grass (Molinia sp.) which can be controlled through the actions of cattle and ponies allowing other plants to emerge.

this photoshoot was a collaboration, a joint force of some talented people.

CN 327 is through Dorval with a fairly new ES44AH (CSXT 3181) & SD70MAC CSXT 4791 as power. While most GEVO's built have the factory standard hi-adhesion trucks, some railways have specified steerable trucks for certain orders, including this batch of CSXT ES44AH's.

A Steer Wrestling capture, from an indoor rodeo shooting series I photographed a couple of month ago at the Davie Pro Rodeo arena.

To my disbelief, when I got to the arena, I discovered that this daytime event was a covered venue. The lighting was extremely poor. Not the ideal conditions for action photography. I concentrated on getting sharp images at any cost.

Even though I had this flat and low contrast lighting to work with a substantial amount of images were great action shots.

I'll post a few more.

I only have the best comments for my Canon 1D-X for handling the noise, tracking, and color temperature.

For the curious Flickr friends from around the globe:

"Steer wrestling, also known as bulldogging, is a rodeo event in which a horse-mounted rider chases a steer, drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by twisting its horns."

My solution for the steering and suspension. This design could work in most vehicles.

Also, as you can see the front design is a tad different than the back design.
