There was a short nature walk by the campground & this sign caught my eye. I was especially happy to see their tips for how to help.
. . . this massive White Pine tree is located just a few miles east of Bellaire, MI. along the Cedar River and is a reminder of what made Michigan great at the end of the 1800s.
At 105 inches around and over 80 feet in height, it would be a small one compared to the virgin trees logged off to build cities like Chicago back then. Then Mrs. O'Leary's cow came upon the scene!
Have a great weekend Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!

The Vandalia State House was built in 1836 when Illinois was only 18 years into its statehood. The building only served as the State House for three years after which the capitol was moved to Springfield. The building was then given to Fayette County where it was used as their county courthouse from 1839 to 1933. If I recall this correctly, the floors on the 2nd floor are the original wooden floors that Abraham Lincoln walked across when he served as a state legislator there. It is the oldest surviving capitol building in Illinois. After the State took over ownership again in 1933 it was preserved and today operates as a State Historic Site. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. I so wish the weather hadn't been so rainy and dreary on the date I stopped here on my way to Indiana.
