The Death of Marat by He Xiangyu. This remarkably realistic sculpture is a depiction of fellow Chinese artist Ai Weiwei (who is still very much among the living).

I always think the trees which surround Balvaird Castle look as though they are sentinels protecting it.
And often they outshine it!
What could be more fashionable than a single white tail feather ? It's a bold statement by any means, and I'm sure he's the talk of the bird world.
The white tail feather is actually Leucism which is caused by uneven distribution of melanin in the feathers.
I saw this card at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. It still carries great meaning in today's political climate.
One wonders what went through the mind of the good citizens of Arundel (West Sussex) when they planned their new Town Hall. Most of the town centre consists of substantial dwellings in the Regency, Georgian and Victorian styles with a few timber-framed buildings in between. There is also, of course, a massive castle dating back to Norman times. But the new Town Hall of around 1900 is really something else - a kind of hybrid of the Porta Nigra in Trier and the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. If this is the architectural expression of self-confidence, it is a rather noisy one.

Whatever ones opinion about "Religion" as expressed by the
Catholic Church in Europe, there most certainly was no
limit on Ornamentation as an expression of Holiness.
Modernism?, certainly not.
Impressively ornate and beautiful to view- that's for sure.
Cathedral Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Terco e Caridade built 1755 -1759, Rua de Cimo de Vila 36 C Porto Portugal.
Facing West, on a very narrow, curiously "sketchy-looking" inclined street not far from The Historic Sao Bento Train Station in PORTO, this church
now is used to feed the homeless and poor.
Many of the small shops that line Rua de Cimo de Vila,
are an eclectic mix of
Old-School Leather-Craftsman,
Indian Barber-Shops,
"Indian" (Bangladeshi/Pakistani/Nepalese/ Indian )
Halal Butches and Grocers,
and several Restaurants frequented by
mostly Indian men, serving tasty Samosa, Chai
and other dishes that you'll see being eaten
"by hand" (literally), a dining technique that
many Westerners find......off-putting
yet in India and Africa,and Indonesia- how they roll.
