I turned in my senior thesis paper yesterday and I feel so unburdened. That was the only major thing I had left for school, so now I'm done.
Have to turn in my housing application today and then it'll be official.
Moving out....now THAT is a big deal and a fresh start.
And you know what that means...shopping!!! Shop for graduation outfit...summer outfits...Berkeley outfits...shoes, particularly gladiator shoes ...dorm stuff...etc... =)
this is really a mini squash album that you put pictures in but I thought it would be fun to do Zentangles.
i am not a person who copes well with nostalgia, even when it is pleasant. the recent spate of cool fall like weather coupled with the beautiful grey clouded rainy skies we've been having have (as it always happens) made me feel a certain indeterminate sense of nostalgic longing for something. i was burning some incense tonight and playing some old toad the wet sprocket songs, and i felt happy and content and unafraid of the world around me. i felt like a teenager without all the overblown angst and drama of puberty. instead i had the angst and drama (or mild depression coupled with a large does of indifference) that is young adulthood. which i guess means that i traded one set of tired and useless emotions for an equally pedestrian set that just happened to be dressed up like french whores. they're all pretty to look at, but living with them gets stale rather quickly. so this has left something churning in me and i don't know what. i feel...and that's all. i don't have words for how i feel. i pride myself on being somone who has words for things, has words for myself. but i have none. and i don't like it. and the nostalgia does not help.
in a completely unrelated vein, this picture was taken at the bottom of the trail i hiked in yosemite when i went there for a geography conference back in april of '05. it was an amazing trip that at the time really revitalized me and helped me make some important decisions (such as i could be happier by myself than with someone who i was miserable trying to make it work with). it was beautiful beyond words. i don't know who this kid is, but i took a shot of him and it seems to inspire in me some sort of feeling of a beginning. because we all start them somewhere.
I don't really use a planner so this will be more like a journal. On each day of the weekly pages I intend to write the best thing that happened that day.
Used a 3-ring binder from 1972 - decided to NOT embellish it because I like it just the way it is. It has all of the original dividers, etc. I do plan to add to the dividers.
So far I have printed the monthly/weekly calendar pages, some unlabeled lists, and Dare2Be/List 10 pages, painted reinforcement rings, started working on the January divider, started my "Global" To-do list, made some calendar entries, and made my Week 1 PAC* (with 16 half-circle reinforcements).
* I've used my cat stamp multiple times this year already. I can't help it. I've already got several other places I plan to use it...to the point that people will think I'm a one-trick pony and have only one rubber stamp. :)

Begin by developing sketches that focus on composition rather than tiny details. Details can always be added in later - I like to leave some decision-making for the actual drawing itself. Reference photos are appropriate, since this is a self portrait - but avoid being totally influenced by the photography...it's important that you, as the artist, make artistic decisions as you develop your artwork.

Today I started the lemon shred marmalade. 20 organic lemons all have to be carefully zested, pith cut off, seeds removed and fruit pureed. Then sugared overnight before being cooked tomorrow. It's a lot of work - but the lemon scent is lovely on this wintery day.
