On the way home from the Springfield train show a few weekends ago, I checked ATCS as I neared the Illinois 10 exit. Lo and behold, a green signal for a southbound at Lodge, with a train somewhere near Galesville. Nice! A quick turnaround brought me over to the Bloomington District to find NS2717 and a crusty thoroughbred Dash 9 (9684, perhaps?) building air at Galesville. Just as I turned around to head down to Mills, they actually started moving, making it a race I hadn't even been planning on.
It was a bit of a mad sprint down to CP Mills, one blocked by a dog who really liked circling my car as I tried to get away from Galesville, but I made it in time all the same. By the time I reached the tiny single-track bridge just south of Mills, it became debate time - do I cross it and play that game? My debate was cut short when the dim headlight of the SD70M-2 rounded the bend just to the north. No more playing the Stand By Me game, just a little telesmashing. The dim headlight and lack of ditchlights was interesting, but she was certainly moving over 30 at least. Nice late afternoon catch to cap off a nice day out.
Still never figured out what train symbol this was. Short all-grain hopper train, all quiet on the radio. Not D36, so who knows?
A few fresh shots of the Food Stand Diners, mostly while I have fun experimenting with new lighting setups.
PS, they're trending pretty well on LEGO Ideas, but could use a few extra votes to get them over the line to 10,000. So, if you'd like to see them as a set, but haven't yet supported them, head to

One January morning, I chased the light and landed up shooting the Tall Ships in the Dana Point Harbor in Southern California... it was just one of those moments when things aligned.... where things just positioned themselves like this :D
Thanks for looking!
I am at a loss for words for the suffering that has befallen Ukraine. Europe must help those fleeing the war but also those staying to fight it. Putin is a criminal who must be stopped. #StandWithUkraine

'Christmas Day' - December 25th, 2021
*[my contact Sal described it best:
"GUARD the CASTLE stance" LOL]
Meerkats are small burrowing animals from South Africa, living in large underground networks with multiple entrances which they leave only during the day. They are very social, living in colonies averaging 20–30 members. Animals in the same group regularly groom each other to strengthen social bonds. The alpha pair often scent-mark subordinates of the group to express their authority, and this is usually followed by the subordinates grooming the alphas and licking their faces. This behavior is also usually practiced when group members are reunited after a short period apart. Most meerkats in a group are all siblings or offspring of the alpha pair. They are from the mongoose family. Quite fun to observe them.
Meerkats demonstrate altruistic behavior within their colonies; one or more meerkats stand sentry while others are foraging or playing, to warn them of approaching dangers. When a predator is spotted, the meerkat performing as sentry gives a warning bark, and other members of the gang will run and hide in one of the many bolt holes they have spread across their territory. The sentry meerkat is the first to reappear from the burrow and search for predators, constantly barking to keep the others underground. If there is no threat, the sentry meerkat stops signaling, they feel safe to emerge.

Submission by the less dominant bird saves injury I guess, the coarse hair to the left is a roadkill wild boar lunch!
Watching their behaviour over several days, it is fascinating to see the bird that is eating protect its food by covering it over using its outspread wings, almost trying to hide it and to say "go away....it's mine"!!

I Stand Alone lyrics
Now I've told you this once before
You can't control me
If you try to take me down you're gonna break
Now I feel your hatred nothing that you're doing for me
I'm thinkin you outta make your own way
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone
You're always hiding behind your so called goddess
So what you don't think that we can see your face
Resurrected back before the final fallen
I'll never rest until I can make my own way
I'm not afraid of fading
I stand alone
Feeling your sting down inside of me
I'm not dying for it
I stand alone
Everything that I believe is fading
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone
And now its my time (now its my time)
It's my time to dream (my time to dream)
Dream of the sky (dream of the sky)
Make me believe that this place isn't plagued
By the poison in me
Help me decide if my fire will burn out
Before you can breathe
Breathe into me
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone
Feeling your sting down inside of me
I'm not dying for it
I stand alone
Everything that I believe is fading
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone
Inside
