Across my road there is a small stand of pines that, when it’s windy, creates a whistling sound that’s almost eerie. I love it. Happy Slider Sunday!

This intriguing sculpture pattern was the part of a famous Grizedale Forest Sculpture trail and was designed by Donald Urquhart in 1998. The square on the ground was made of tiny chips of Dolomite marble which were held in place by a wooden framework. From a distance, it appears like tree shadows casted by an imaginary light source on a snowy white ground. One would imagine that this installation does require routine maintenance every year due to pine needles falling from conifers above, kids playing on and with stones, etc. We were lucky to see it in a very good condition at the time of the visit.

… und das am 31.Oktober 2022 im Herbst.
Ich bin an einem Stand zu Selbstpflücken vorbeigefahren und dachte das gibt’s doch nicht. Die ganze Wiese stand noch in voller Blütenbracht. Also hielt ich an und erfreute mich an den sehr schönen Dahlien. Hier sind nur ein paar der tollen Blumen.
Düsseldorf-Gerresheim
Ein Hochbunker, graubraun, hässlich und mehr oder weniger nutzlos, so stand er stand schon immer dort, schräg gegenüber der Arbeitersiedlung “Neustadt”. Beides gehörte zur Gerresheimer Glashütte. Der Bunker ist ein Überbleibsel des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Das Bauwerk wurde in den Jahren 1942/43 durch französische Kriegsgefangene errichtet. Zweitausend Personen passten in die Räume, die spartanisch mit Pritschen ausgestattet waren. Er bot ihnen Schutz vor Bomben und Artilleriebeschuss. In der Nachkriegszeit wurde er von den Gerresheimern auf verschiedene Arten genutzt. Ein Abriss wäre zu teuer gewesen und daher gab es für eine Nachnutzung über Jahrzehnte keine schlauen Ideen. Nun wurde der Gerresheimer Hochbunker an der Heyestraße 152 zu einem Wohnhaus umgebaut. Das Bauwerk wurde um gläserne Penthousewohnungen aufgestockt. In dem Ensemble befinden sich nun 24 Wohnungen. Geplant ist auch eine Kindertagespflege, im Erdgeschoss ein Bio-Supermarkt, ein Bio-Imbiss sowie eine Kita. Die Baumaßnahmen starteten im Frühjahr 2019.
