Sculpture at Grosvenor Waterside by Richard Wilson (not the Victor Meldrew one).

The iconic green wooden houses of the Zaan region were the fount of inspiration for the designers of the Inntel Hotel (WAM architecten, Delft). The structure is a lively stacking of various examples of these traditional houses, ranging from a notary’s residence to a worker’s cottage. ‘The Blue House’ at the top corner has been inspired by the work Claude Monet painted at Zaandam in 1871.

This pelican just wanted the other pelicans spot. There was an empty pole next to that one but he wanted this one. They must be siblings.

Juicy & delicious clementines from Morocco!

I took a trip to John O'Groats and the weather forecast was awful ... well, the meteorologists got that wrong! So, I took a delightful walk along the coastal path and admired the sea stacks.

A simple stack of a stunning raft spider. If you look on the right hand side you'll see and even smaller spider which I'm yet to ID. It spent a couple of minutes annoying the raft spider and getting kicked around before it ended up as dinner. Imagine annoying someone so much that they resort to eating you...

Macro Mondays : Stack

Another one from the series I took at Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps on our visit to this part of the North Cornish coast. The wind was very strong and was whipping up the waves. Several parts of the footpath have been closed off because of coastal erosion. In the far distance we can see the lighthouse at Trevose Head. The name Bedruthan Steps is said to be taken from a mythological giant called 'Bedruthan' who used the sea stacks as stepping stones, but this seems to be a late nineteenth century invention for Victorian tourists!
