Modern & looking back to the past, like thinking about living off of the backs of our ancestors. That's a bit how Ra Ra Riot's awesome sound feels. We love them! And we're super aced to do this poster for their Pittsburgh 2010 show.

By the time these photos were taken, I was finally beginning to know a little bit about what I was doing! I've learned a lot from studying what all of you on here do, and doing my best to imitate it, and learn to create my own style. I am grateful for all the wonderful examples of art and photography here on Flickr, and more grateful for you, my contacts, who've helped me learn and grow. Thank you!

This is one of a few pictures taken while making some test screens for the 'I Love Acid' T-shirt, now on sale at the Electric Sun site.
The red ink is spread across the screen with a squeegee, in this case twice for a better cover.
Huge thanks to James at Logoprint.
Five rope-suspended cleaners dance across the mirror-blue façade like mid-air acrobats, each silhouette pinned to the sky by a single silver thread. Sunlight skates along the high-rise panels, doubling their movements in perfect crystalline reflections while the empty cobalt backdrop makes every figure feel both weightless and impossibly brave. From this distance their neon harnesses read like tiny brushstrokes on a vast urban canvas-quiet proof that even the sharp geometry of modern architecture still relies on human choreography to keep it shimmering.

My thoughts:
1: Temperature Fluctuation while developing. I was trying what I thought was a steady 20deg supply from a mixer tap . But it seems to uniform.
2: Air bubbles. But I gave the tank good bang each time and I've never had a problem with this before.
3: Slight agitation throughout process. I noticed that the tub I was using for a water bath wasn't quite large enough for 2 tanks. So they may have been slowly rocking in the moving water (see #1)
4: Wetting Agent Contamination. This might be the solution to the mottlng in general but not the stripes. Would serious wetting agent contamination also contribute to more bubbles? (see #2)
Any suggestions or further questions appreciated!

Class: Learn to Screen Print weekend workshop!
Date: Saturday, March 1, 2008
Time: 1:00pm-6:30pm
Location: Etsy Labs, 325 Gold Street 6th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
Description:
Screen Printing is a simple and effective way to produce an unlimited number of virtually identical prints onto practically any surface. A screen fabric is stretched tightly onto a wooden frame and is coated with a photosensitive material. Part of the screen is then blocked with a stencil and is exposed through a photo process leaving your image on the screen. When ink is deposited onto the screen, it is pushed through with a squeegee leaving the image on the printing surface which may be a T-shirt, paper, glass, plastic, or just about anything.
In this class you will learn all of the steps involved in the screen printing process from design conception to the finished product.

As soon as the black plastic was removed, workers inside could see where they needed to begin washing with long-handled squeegees.
Remember the days when you could pull in to the station and get your gas pumped and your windows done for you ! Now your lucky if they have a squeegee and paper towels.. sign of the times..
This is my precious Squeegee. Of all my cats, he's the favorite. Squeeks is a special boy. He's very interactive. If you talk to him, he will wait while you're speaking, and then when you pause, he will answer with his high pitched squeaks! That can go on as long as you choose to "converse" with him! He will come like a dog when you call him, and he knows commands like sit and stay. (All of my cats do.) He's my precious, orange boy!
We used the HP Wall Art program to build this wall paper job. This wall consists of 9 panels from left to right. Printed on HP PVC Free Wall Paper, no lam. This is a standard wall paper installation process. You'll need these to install: tray, water, sponges, drop cloth, squeegee, razor blade and patience.
I heard a thumpity-thump on the windows today at work and looked over to see that the building was getting a quick wash ;o)

rob and i went to the mandoo bar for dinner one night since we heard so many great things about this place. we got an order of pork and chive pan fried dumplings and a pajeon (seafood pancake). when the dumplings came out, we were surprised by how tiny they were. i guess we were used to the bigger chinese dumplings we get in flushing. when we got the pancake, we were also disappointed to see how thin and unimpressive that was also. the dumplings were really greasy and there wasn't anything exciting about them. they lacked that good chive flavor to me. and at that price, 8 measly dumplings for $9, they got to be kidding me. we get bigger tastier dumplings in flushing at 8 for $2. i was looking forward to the seafood pancake because i always love them. the way this place makes them sucks. the pancake was thin, lacking flavor except for the oil dripping off of it, and had some tiny little shrimp. i didn't even get a single squid tentacle! what kind of seafood pancake lacks seafood? and at $15 too! after we forced down the greasy food, we left the place still hungry, almost $30 bucks poorer and feeling like we needed to squeegee our insides. next time, we'll eat our korean food back in flushing.

We sat in the office as the thunder rumbled above. Diploma is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the USA Pavilion. With more than 45,000 guests passing through the doors daily, it requires enormous dedication and hard work to keep our pavilion clean. The oldest of my cats, Squeegee, is around 12 years old. Squeeks has always been a sickly boy. I found him outside where I used to work when he was a stray, and adopted him. A year later he went into kidney failure and all his vital organs began to shut down. After $2500 worth of tests, no one knew what was wrong with him, and so we began a regimine of Torbutrol, one of the very few pain killers (and the ONLY one for Squeeks,) that cats can handle. He began eating again and eventually was almost normal. If he doesn't get his meds, he goes downhill and is in pain. With them, he manages to survive.
Torbutrol is very expensive. It costs me $48 for 15 pills. He gets half a pill twice a day. Squeegee is my "perfect" pet, though. Of all the animals I've ever had, Squeeks is the most interactive, and sweetest. I love him like a child, and having him there these last few months since my mom died has made life much more tolerable. I find it a small price to pay for the affection he gives me!
As Squeegee gets older, I look in those beautiful, amber eyes, and realize that it's a miracle that he's even alive, and that he's lived nearly 12 years is incredible. I know I won't be able to look in those eyes much longer, and it just kills me. I thank God for digital photography, which has made it possible for me to always be able to remember that loving look. It's the reason I started doing this, and one of the reasons I love it so much!
Happy Easter to all of you, and may God bless you!

It was raining pretty hard the other day and as I was driving home I realized that hearing the rain hitting the car and the squeaking, scraping squeegee sound of the wipers are comforting noises. I think it's because when rain and driving combine, the usual scenario is you first panic and then you run to your safe, dry car...and therefore the sound of rain on the roof and the windshield wipers gets associated with the feeling of relief.
I could be wrong.
Anyway, in this photo I was trying to capture individual raindrops while sitting in a dry motel room.
Vacuum table made from plans by Andy McDougall. I will probably pad the inside of the cabinet and stick the shop vac in there. Save for a few holes for airflow, it should cut way down on the noise level.
Barrymore is by far my sweetest cat. Well, he's sweet with people, but not so sweet with his instigating brother, Squeegee!
This Siamese mix kitty has been part of my family since he was born. His mother, a tiny calico named Milky Way, lived across the street from my brother's family. She pretty much adopted them, and had her litter in their shed. They couldn't have her fixed because she technically wasn't theirs. Still, they found homes for all the kittens, and I took Barrymore home when he was only about 4 weeks or so old.
My itty bitty kitty turned into a 20 pound bruiser who loved to torment Squeegee! He became my mother's cat, and didn't have much use for me until she passed away. I'd been concerned about his weight, but the original vet we went to said he was just a big cat. Well, he was greatly overweight, and Barrymore developed diabetes. After Mom passed away, he began losing weight. That's when I found out. He's only about 14 pounds now- still a big cat, but not a fat one- and will be on insulin twice a day for probably the rest of his life.
About a year ago, Barrymore went in to a new vet for a check up. They suspected something was wrong and X-rayed him. It was determined that he was in the early stages of kidney failure and lymphoma, although they couldn't prove the lymphoma without multiple biopsies, which I wouldn't put him through, since I couldn't afford to do chemo or radiation, anyway. The prognosis was 2-6 months, but here it is a year later, and Barrymore is hanging in there. He does exhibit some of the same signs that Tigger had before he died of lymphoma a year ago Christmas, so I'm hoping for the best for my baby cat, who has become completely attached to me now that Mom is gone.
Take a look at that face. How could anyone resist him?! Oh, and btw, he isn't cross-eyed. I was close enough to him that his eyes crossed focusing on me, but he's not like some Siamese cats that stay that way! I thought it looked pretty cute, anyway!

These new Glue Guns > Guns stickers are craftgasmic! Seriously, we think we just created a new word. These stickers will give you such a "craft-on" we should ship them with a pack of wet wipes and a squeegee!
*we however would not suggest adhering them to man-moss*
These hand printed Red, White and Black stickers are approximately 3" x 9". They look just as great on your car's bumper as they do covering up body parts!
Even over two months after the fact, Squeegee is still showing signs of grieving over Tigger, who died on Christmas Eve day. Squeegee is the oldest of my cats, and has weathered most everything that life has thrown at him, but lately he's just not himself.
To complicate matters, Squeeks has been noticing that something is wrong with Barrymore, who has been sick. Barrymore is Squeegee's brother from another mother, whereas Tigger was more like Squeegee's best friend. Barrymore and Squeeks have a long history of sibling rivalry, but despite the quarrels, I have no doubt that Squeegee loves Barrymore, and the other day when I brought More-More to the vet and didn't bring him home because they were running an insulin curve on him all day, Squeeks seemed noticeably upset, and edgy until Barrymore came home.
Squeegee is very intuitive. He is my little alarm cat! Whenever something is wrong, Squeeks will start howling or squeaking to let me know. It started with letting me know when migraines were coming on, and now he alerts me to the other cats being sick, water leaks, you name it! When Tigger and Barrymore used to spat, Squeegee was the tattler who ratted them out! Now, the way he keeps sniffing at Barrymore indicates to me that he can actually smell the changes in his body chemistry, which is why although I'd love to believe that Barrymore doesn't have cancer, I'm pretty sure he does by the way Squeegee is behaving. He did the same thing with Tigger, who had lymphoma.
It's hard to tell how Squeegee is feeling. He looks sad all the time- always has- so his moods can be a mystery. Now I have to make a decision whether to get another cat if Barrymore passes away, because Squeegee will have no one to keep him company all day while I'm at work. I think the depression may deepen. I had a dog once that seemed to be dying. We got a puppy and the dog perked up, having a new playmate, and lived five more years! I guess this is one I'll have to play by ear, but I don't want to hasten Squeegee's demise through depression and loneliness. This has been too much change too soon for Squeeks. It's been too much change too soon for me, too! We could use your prayers.
Neocolor II on glass-> paper monotype.
Next batch of monotype experiments involved leaving the neocolor II drawing dry, but wetting the paper. Unfortunately either I need to squeegee the paper to less wet (but I didn't have a squeegee) or the rice paper I was using was just too absorbent.
On top, the crayon drawing on glass. Below, the two prints on wet rice paper shortly after painting. By morning the pigment had disbursed so much it was like a light cloudy stain, not even as interesting as tie-die.

this is Chuck. he's a squeegee guy - someone who goes up to cars at red lights and washes the windshield and asks for money. i gave him and his friend $1.00 and took their pictures and talked to them for about fifteen minutes. he was very polite and personable.
he said they make between $10.00 - $30.00 an hour. not everyone gives them money. he said squeegee girls get more money if they are attractive and that he does well with punks when he has his shirt off (he said he's covered in tattoos and they think he's cool). older people will give if he is polite and respectful and sometimes middle-class guys will give because they can empathize with needing work/money.
people feel obligated to give money because the squeegee guys have provided a service (albeit one that is forced on the driver). he said sometimes people give money because they are scared. some of the squeegee guys are pretty intimidating.
squeegeeing is illegal in most places, including toronto. halifax was the last place it was legal, and they prohibited it a few years ago. the police usually hassle them and they move around a lot. they get about a ticket a day ($65-$125) but they don't pay the fines. it is the same charge that prostitutes are often arrested for - soliciting someone in a vehicle for money.
Find out more about the project at www.100Strangers.com
i posted a picture below - do you prefer one or the other? i like the bottom one because his eyes are beautiful.
