Driveway Spotting! Pool maintenance done, one of the cars washed, what better way to enjoy a nice warm day than to do some #drivewayspotting? N908NN passes abeam Founders' Plaza for 18R. Of the over 7400 Boeing 737s delivered since the introduction of the 737-100, over 2700 are 737-800s and this doesn't include the P-8A Poseidon which is based on the -800. This makes the -800 the most successful 737 variant of the entire family. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #nikon #d7000 #dslr #kdfw #dfw #airport #airplane_lovers #igtexas #squareready #planespotting #airlines #megaplane #instaplane #boeing #737 #american #dfwavgeek #instagramaviation #N908NN #avgeekschoolofknowledge #avgeekery
Here's a Cessna 414A Chancellor on rollout at Addison Airport- the numbers of flying Chancellors dwindles each year. The 414 first flew in 1968 and in 1976 got a landing gear redesign, a longer nose, simplified fuel system and a whole host of other improvements as the Cessna 414A. Production ended in 1985 after a shade over a thousand were built, split about 50-50 between the 414 and the later 414A. Most flying Chancellors today have had aftermarket mods to improve its payload as it always had more space for cargo than its max load allowed. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #nikon #d7000 #dslr #kads #ads #addison #airport #airplane_lovers #igtexas #squareready #planespotting #cessna #cessna414 #chancellor #megaplane #instaplane #instadfw #instagramaviation #avgeekschoolofknowledge #wearetxgmers #avgeekery
American fighter pilots in the skies over the Reich quickly realized the best counter to the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet was to catch it at its airfields during takeoff and landing where long engine spool up times and low altitudes negated its speed advantage. To protect the 262 bases, not only did they boast robust AAA defenses, but German ace Adolf Galland formed a special airfield protection unit called the Platzschutzstaffel that flew Focke Wulf Fw 190D-9s- the Dora 9s had outstanding low to medium altitude performance to catch the marauding American fighters. In response, North American developed a rocket-boosted Mustang to take in the Me 262s at altitude rather than run the gauntlet of airfield defenses. An Aerojet liquid fuel rocket engine powered by red fumaric acid and aniline was installed in the rear fuselage ahead of the tail wheel and behind the radiator exhaust. 75 gallons of fuel for the rocket were carried in pressurized underwing tanks, enough for 1 minute of operation that gave the P-51 a 100 mph boost. On 23 April 1945 the rocket Mustang was successfully flight tested, but the surrender of the Reich on 8 May ended the project. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #nikon #d7000 #dslr #kads #ads #addison #warbirdsoveraddison #airport #airplane_lovers #igtexas #squareready #planespotting #megaplane #instaplane #instagramaviation #northamerican #p51 #mustang #instadfw #igaviationcontest #wearetxgmers #avgeekschoolofknowledge
UPS got its first Boeing 757-200PF in 1987 and now operates around 75 in their fleet. During the order, both Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce competed vigorously for the engine order with Pratt edging out Rolls to use the PW2000 series engine on the first block of aircraft. Pratt promised 7% better fuel burn than Rolls but it only came out to 2% at best. Combined with reliability issues, for the next block of 757s, UPS went with the RB211 which ended up costing less to maintain with better reliability, despite its higher fuel burn. This is why UPS's 757 fleet has both engine types. It wasn't in vain for Pratt & Whitney, though. The PW2000 experience taught them well and they won the engine competition with the PW4000 series to power UPS's A300-600 freighters. This is N440UP, delivered in September 1994 to UPS. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #nikon #d7000 #dslr #kdfw #dfw #airport #airplane_lovers #igtexas #squareready #planespotting #airlines #megaplane #instaplane #boeing #757 #ups #dfwavgeek #instagramaviation #igaviationcontest #avgeekschoolofknowledge #n440up #wearetxgmers
The joy of flight! This gal had the time of her life taking a leisurely cruise over North Dallas in this PT-19. You can be damn sure she'll never look at the moment of liftoff on a commercial flight the same way after experiencing flying this way. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #nikon #d7000 #dslr #kads #ads #addison #warbirdsoveraddison #airport #airplane_lovers #igtexas #squareready #planespotting #megaplane #instaplane #instagramaviation #Fairchild #pt19 #cornell #avgeekery
