Due to the close proximity of the cutting being constructed to the existing tracks, the 1920's overhead structures required removal early and two track cantilever structures installed to prevent undermining from the construction activity along the DOWN platform.
New portal structure alongside old wire tensioning structure. New 1500V DC traction feeders from substation (centre) being installed. The old building to the far right is the original rotary rectifier substation dating from electrification of the line to Dandenong in 1922. It was decommissioned in the 1950's and served as an engineering firm for much of the period since.
Back in the history of A.1. services several destinations crop up from time to time Ardrossan or Hayocks via Springvale is the destination and this is Springvale! Turning out of Springvale Street is NCS11P a then new Daimler Fleetline with Alexander bodywork on it's way along the "High Road" route to Stevenston.
Remaining overhead structures from Springvale Cemetery Line which operated from DOWN side of Springvale Station between 1904 and 1947 (the line was officially booked out in 1951 several months after removal of the overhead). The line was removed and the 'new' Sandown Racecourse obliterated the former right of way. A short section remained for many years serving as a siding for Springvale station and for the nearby Rocla plant when it was operating.
In recent years it was booked out of use before being dismantled to allow construction for a new substation as part of the Westall upgrade project.

8130 rolls downhill past Springvale Colliery with a short 1721N empty cement train to Kandos. This would prove to be the third last train to the Kandos plant, with the final train running on July 21st, 2011.
1721/7122 cement freights ceased in mid-July with Cement Australia slowly closing down operations at their Kandos plant. Typically the domain of a 81 class, occasionally an 80 class would be rostered to assist, or a second 81 class if loading was high enough. On at least one occasion, a G Class locomotive worked the train as well.

Former display house site on Princes Highway Springvale for Swenrick Constructions - a company specialising in country transportable houses, small bungalows and granny flats. The company moved its base to a new site in Bayswater North.
By September 2013, most of the former display houses have been moved off site leaving the now-derelict and vandalised display office and two display houses awaiting removal - also now featuring unwanted murals on the front too.

It was so yummy today. A crisp shell puffed up like pork crackling, tender insides, and a whiffy ammonia fragrance. Aunt Lay Leong and mum commented that they could probably do the same with pork stomach, and indeed they do in France! I had it in a Dijon, I think.

Shelter along Springvale Road southbound near Wellington Road. SmartBus Route 902 operates here, which runs in an orbital route around Melbourne from Chelsea to Airport West. The complete run from one end to the other takes around 3 hours and 10 minutes to complete!
The shelter itself is from JCDecaux as are others within the City of Monash area. Unlike most, this does not have advertising at the end, presumably because of the narrow median and the location of the access path and pram crossing across the service road.
Red Rooster moved to the other side of the Springvale Junction in the 1990's to a new building with eat in facilities which this did not have.
It has been an Indian Restaurant ever since.
The Melbourne Suburb of Springvale hosted a large number of Italian residents, following World War II. This lasted through to the 1960's and early 1970's.
The ethnic mix changed from the mid 1970's following the end of the Vietnam War, with the influx of refugees permitted into the country by the Federal Government. Today the suburb has a a large majority population of Vietnamese, Cambodian and other immigrants from South East Asian nations.

Originally Eagle Durasig Signals, they were replaced with LED in 2011. A number of modifications have been made over the years, including modifications of the left turn slip lanes to enable drivers to more easily see traffic from the right, and the addition of right turn lanes.
More recently bus priority signals were added and a third right turn lane from Cheltenham Road (east) to Springvale Road (north).
Note the left turn lane was originally a sweeping curve in the grassed area in the foreground. New lanes were built in the 1990's at a sharper angle so drivers could see oncoming traffic.

The Patent Nut & Bolt Company took over the assets of Reginald Blewitt's Cwmbran Iron Works, including their two collieries and their associated brick works at Two Locks and Upper Cwmbran. By the end of the 19th Century they had been taken over by Guest & Keen who were later joined by Nettlefold's to form GKN. They finally closed for good in the 1980s.

A not-so-old Beaurepaires car service centre, built using the tilt-up slab system, undergoing demolition on the corner of Westall Road and Osborne Avenue in August 2014. It had remained vacant for some months before demolition.
The chain was founded in 1922 by Sir Frank Beaurepaire, an Australian swimmer in the early 20th century. He went on to serve as Lord Mayor of Melbourne and in the Victorian Legislative Assembly and was a key delegate sent to London to win for Melbourne the right to host the 1956 Olympic Games. He died of a heart attack before the Games were took place.

The Necropolis commenced operations in 1901. Until 2006, it operated as The Necropolis Springvale. Between 1904 and 1952 it was served by its own railway station and line to transport coffins, passengers and staff to the cemetery. The first cremation took place at Springvale in April 1905. In 2007 Springvale conducted over 2000 burials and 6000 cremations..
The Trustees of the cemetery also administer Dandenong Cemetery, St Kilda Cemetery and Melbourne General Cemetery..
The cemetery contains the war graves of 146 Commonwealth service personnel, nearly 50 from World War I and nearly 100 from World War II.

‘Springvale’
Plan for a homestead erected by Frew and Logan for the property named ‘Springvale’ for Johann Carl Heinrich Lindner, known as ‘J.H’ or ‘Harry’, at Burrumbuttock.
The property comprised several areas of land previously held by various early settlers. Between 1882 and 1914, these blocks were purchased by members of the Lindner family to form one holding. When first purchased from the Crown, the blocks were valued at £1 per acre.
Notice the stamp, ‘Frew & Logan Builders and Funeral Directors, Olive Street Albury’. The homestead was built before 1912, when Frew and Logan worked from premises on the corner of Olive and Wilson streets. The company was required to move to Swift Street in 1912 following a court case about excessive noise.

Looking in UP direction from Springvale Road level crossing, soon to be grade separated. The third track at right provides access to the stabling yard and maintenance facility at Westall. At right is the former Emptor Distillation Plant, built in 1943. Today the ground floor of the building is an air conditioning showroom.
