This has been a hellish week for the poor crocuses - warm enough to pop up, and then a crushing twenty five degree temperature drop to start the weekend, followed by snow overnight last night. For perseverance alone they deserve a medal. Despite the grim setting of wet snow their hardiness is a shot in the arm in these challenging times. To say nothing of the sad early tulip leaf trying to get in on the action.

around my hometown

(Thank you all very much for your comments and faves on my previous spring forest image.) An early morning shaft of sunlight illuminated just enough of the scene to lift the trunk of this old oak which hopefully draws the eye between the hawthorns in peak condition. The midges were also in peak condition!! A penalty for warm still weather in the forest at this time of year, so it was hood up, sleeves tightly wrapped round the wrists and lots of helicopter flaying of arms!! Just as well it was early and no-one was around.
